Chapter 9
I interrupted her and said lightly, “Lucia, let the past go. It’s meaningless to say this now.”
Lucia looked at the newly erected tombstone not far away, feeling sad.
That’s right, the person had been dead for five years. No matter how much she apologized or how much she regretted, my mother would never come back to life.
After a long silence, she forced a smile, “Gerald, where have you been these years?”
I looked up at the white clouds in the sky and said, “I went travel to see how big the world is. Also, I took my mother to fulfill her dream before she died.”
After hearing this, Lucia’s tears burst out again. She clearly remembered how good my mother was to her before she died.
Even her biological parents couldn’t do that. My mother really wanted her to be her daughter–in–law.
Unfortunately, there was no regret medicine in this world…
Lucia choked silently and her tears wet her clothes. I used to be unable to bear seeing her shed even a single tear. Because my heart would ache.
But now, my heart was as calm as water.
There were footsteps outside the yard and my wife walked into the backyard holding our daughter. Lucia looked up at her, with deep jealousy and regret in her eyes.
My wife was not as beautiful as Lucia, but she was very virtuous and considerate. Most importantly, her eyes and heart were full of me.
Just like Lucia when we first met.
The first meeting between the two women was a little awkward and a little cold.
After a few formal greetings, Lucia left.
Looking at the Maybach going away, my wife smiled and asked me, “Gerald, she is the ex–girlfriend you mentioned to me, right?”
I nodded and said yes.
My wife said softly, “Gerald, I can see that she can’t forget you and can’t let you go.”
I looked calm, “Everyone has their own ideas, I can’t control them.”
We both looked at each other and smiled knowingly.
I knew Lucia, she was a woman who would not give up until she achieved her goal. In order not to have any entanglement with her, I planned to leave Manchester as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, it didn’t go as I wish. My daughter might not be acclimatized and had a high fever for several days.
I booked a hotel near the hospital and took turns with my wife to take care of her. I was exhausted.

One day, just as I was about to go out to the hospital, a figure suddenly blocked my way. Looking at Lucia in front of me, I smiled bitterly in my heart.
My wife was right, she couldn’t let me go at all. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been looking for me for five years.
Lucia held a thermos in her hand, with expectation and caution on her face.
“Gerald, this is the chicken soup I made myself. You used to like it the most. I cooked it for several hours. Eat it while it’s hot. After eating it, I’ll go to the hospital with you to see Lily.” When she picked up the thermos, I saw the Band–Aids on her fingers and arms.
Lucia was spoiled and had never been in the kitchen since she was a child.
The only thing I knew was that she cooked noodles for John.
It was nine o’clock in the morning now.
This chicken soup had been cooked for several hours, which meant that she basically didn’t sleep last night.
I couldn’t help but sigh in my heart, “Lucia, why are you doing this?”
Knowing that we were impossible, why bothered to please me like this.
She did such meaningless things was not her style as a strong woman at all. Lucia pursed her lips and said nothing and continued to hand over the thermos.
I didn’t take it, but pushed it away.
“Lucia, we have been separated for five years.”
