Chapter 83
Chapter 59
ARIA
After a lovely and relaxing morning, we got out of bed and went for breakfast with the rest of the pack. Pack members stood up when we entered the dining hall and bowed their heads.
“Alpha, Luna,” they murmured in unison.
God, that still feels weird. Not long ago I was just Gabriel Silverbrook’s adopted daughter. Now I’m suddenly Luna to an entire pack of werewolves. And pregnant, which is a whole other level of crazy I’m still processing.
We took our seats at the main table with Jace’s family. Aurora bounced excitedly when she saw us, her little face lighting up.
“Mom! Dad! I saved you seats!”
My heart melted every time she called me “mom.” I ruffled her hair as I sat down next to her.
“Thanks, sweetie.”
Breakfast was mostly peaceful, though I could feel Scarlett Ravencroft’s eyes burning holes in my
back. Whatever. She’d hated me since day one when her perfect little plan to become Luna went up
in smoke the moment I arrived. Now she was stuck watching a former human take “her” position. Tough break.
After finishing our meal, we dropped Aurora/off at the Wolf Cub Center. She hugged my legs tightly before running off to join the other pups. Jáce squeezed my hand as we headed to the training
grounds.
Every warrior stopped mid–exercise when we approached. The silence was immediate. Jace kissed my forehead before addressing the group.
“Morning, everyone. I’ve got news that’ll interest many of you. The Sacred Moonlight Gathering is
approaching fast. As always, we need our best warriors to represent Moon Shadow Pack.”
The excited response was immediate–cheers and howls erupted across the training grounds. These
guys lived for the chance to proye themselves.
Jace raised his hand, and the noise died instantly. “I need participants for several categories: Tracking, where you’ll follow another werewolf. Hunting, where you’ll race to be first to return wit prey. Racing, testing speed and agility. Combat, where I’ll need two warriors. And finally, as tradition dictates, the Alpha competition. This year, I’ll be competing.”

A young warrior toward the back raised his hand. “Alpha, will you personally select who competes?”
“Those interested in tracking and hunting should put their names forward. I’ll make selections with help from our former and current Chief Warriors. For racing and combat, the warriors will be tested and chosen with Luna’s assistance.”
A scoff broke through the crowd. Jace’s expression hardened instantly. “Something amusing you, Scarlett?”
She stepped forward, fake innocence plastered on her face. “Oh, nothing. I just don’t understand why a human would select our warriors.”
The silence that followed was deadly. I kept my face neutral despite the rage building inside me. Phantom, Jace’s wolf, surfaced in his eyes–a dangerous sign.
“First,” he said, his voice deceptively calm, “she is your Luna. Show respect.” Each word dropped like ice. Second, Aria wants to participate in pack affairs and help me–exactly what a Luna should do. Third, though she was born human, she now has powers granted by the Moon Goddess herself and was trained by our Chief Warrior Gabriel. The only reason she isn’t competing is because she’s carrying our pup.”
The shock on Scarlett’s face was priceless. The announcement sent a wave of excitement through the warriors. Cheers and congratulations erupted around us.
My eyes found Scarlett’s jealous glare. The fury radiating from her was almost visible. If looks could kill, I’d be six feet under. Whatever. Let her stew.
After the excitement died down, I stepped forward. “Jace will select the fifty best warriors to return tomorrow for testing. You’ll compete in your own mini–tournament. The top two will represent our pack at the Sacred Moonlight Gathering.”
Training resumed as we left. Back at headquarters, we headed straight to Jace’s office. The second the door closed, he pulled me onto his lap, pride shining in his eyes.
“You were amazing out there. You’ll make an incredible Luna.”
I sighed, resting my head against his. “Jace, I know more about fighting than being Luna. But I understand how a Luna should treat her pack and her Alpha. I’ll do my best.”
His arms tightened around me. “Aria, just be yourself. If they can’t accept who you are, they can deal with it or leave. The Moon Goddess made you my mate and their Luna. No one can change that.”
I nodded against his chest. “I know. I’ll learn, I promise.”
“I’ll help you. We’re in this together.” He kissed me softly, his hand brushing over my stomach.

We stayed like that for a while, just holding each other. Eventually, I pulled back. “I should go to the library. I want to learn more about werewolf history and how they lived before.”
He smiled. “Always studying. That’s my girl.”
I kissed him goodbye and left his office, heading down the corridor toward the library. I nodded politely to pack members I passed in the hallway. Most smiled back respectfully, though some still looked uncertain about their human–born Luna.
When I reached the main entrance hall, angry voices caught my attention. I slowed my pace,
listening.
“Stupid lowlife. If you can’t watch where you’re going while cleaning, you shouldn’t be working in pack headquarters.”
I’d know that infuriating voice anywhere–Scarlett Ravencroft, screaming at someone again.
I rounded the corner to find her towering over a young Omega girl who was desperately trying to clean up a spilled bucket of water, her hands shaking so badly she could barely grip the mop.
Perfect. Just what I needed after a good morning–another confrontation with our pack’s resident
bitch.
