Chapter 89

JACE

Damn. Aria just stormed out of my office, and I could feel her fury through our mate bond like a punch to the gut. That woman has some serious fire when she’s angry. Can’t blame her though Laura showing up uninvited and insulting our daughter? I’d be pissed too. 00

I watched the door slam behind Aria, the frame actually shaking a bit. My attention reluctantly shifted back to Laura Blackwater, who was now doing her best impression of a victim. Tears suddenly appeared, her shoulders shaking with exaggerated sobs. This act might have worked on someone

else, but not on me

Your Luna is so unfriendly,Laura sniffled, dabbing at her eyes. Threatening your guest. Ordering

you to throw me out.”

My jaw clenched. I’d suggest you not insult my mate. As Luna of Moon Shadow Pack, she has every

right to ask you to leave.”

Laura straightened up, her fake tears suddenly forgotten. But you’re the Alpha. You’re the actual

leader here.”

That might be how things work in your pack,I said, keeping my voice even. But we do things differently here. A car’s been arranged to take you to the airport or a hotel. Your choice, but you

can’t stay here.[

Laura’s face flushed with anger. Are you serious? You’re actually making me leave?”

Yes, I am,I said firmly

Before Laura could respond, a knock interrupted us. Gabriel stepped into my office, his expression carefully neutral. Never been more grateful for his timing

Gabriel,I said with a smile. What can I do for you?”

Gabriel gave a respectful nod. Alpha, I wanted to inform you that a car is ready, and Hunter is waiting to escort Ms. Blackwater to her destination of choice.”

Thanks, Gabriel. Would you mind making sure she gets to the car safely?”

Of course,Gabriel replied coolly. Ms. Blackwater, if you’ll please follow me.”

Laura stood frozen for a moment, clearly not used to being dismissed. Finally, she gathered her

purse, shot me one last glare, and followed Gabriel out. I could hear her heels clicking angrily down the hallway until the sound faded completely

I sank back into my chair, rubbing my temples. This wasn’t how I’d planned to spend my afternoon. Laura’s father, Alpha Samuel Blackwater, had been pushing for an alliance between our packs for months. I’d made it clear I wasn’t interested in the kind of alliancehe had in mind namely, me taking his daughter as a mate

Speaking of Alpha Samuel, I needed to call him. He should know what happened here today. I picked up my phone and dialed his number

Alpha Jace,Samuel answered immediately, How are things?”

Something in his tone made me pause. He didn’t sound surprised to hear from me

Alpha Samuel. I’m well, thank you. And yourself?”

Samuel sighed heavily. I’d be better if I wasn’t anticipating the reason for your call. I want to apologize for my daughter’s unexpected visit.”

I appreciate that,I said, leaning back in my chair. I wanted to let you know that I’ve asked her to leave Moon Shadow territory. After her disrespect toward my Luna, I’ll have to request you not bring

her here in the future.”

Of course, Alpha,Samuel replied, sounding relieved. Thank you for not canceling our cooperation

agreement over this.”

No need for thanks. I’ll see you at the Sacred Moonlight Gathering, Alpha Samuel.”

After hanging up, I closed my eyes and reached out through our mate bond. Aria’s anger had

subsided somewhat. She was probably with Aurora and Lucas now. The thought of my daughter and

mate together always brought me peace

I returned to the stack of paperwork on my desk, focusing on the upcoming trip to the Sacred

Moonlight Gathering and security arrangements for while I’d be away. This year’s event was

particularly important our first as mates, and with Aria pregnant, we needed to make an impression of strength and unity

The truth was, packs like Alpha Samuel Blackwater’s pack would see Aria as a weakness a human

turned Luna through the Moon Goddess’s blessing rather than a born werewolf. They wouldn’t

understand her strength, her determination. They’d try to exploit what they perceived as

vulnerability

My pen snapped in my hand, ink spilling across the security rotation schedule I’d been reviewing. The thought of anyone seeing Aria as weak made Phantom stir within me, his protective instincts surging

Calm down, I told myself. She can handle herself

Chapter 89

I remembered how she’d confronted Laura, the fierce protection in her eyes when our daughter was insulted. Though born human, Aria had the heart of a wolf long before the Moon Goddess gave her

Sage

As I cleaned up the ink spill and grabbed a new pen, I felt a warmth spread through our bond. Aria was happy now, probably spending time with Aurora. The intensity of emotions I felt for her sometimes caught me off guard the fierce protectiveness, the pride, the desire. After Vanessa abandoned us, I never thought I’d feel this way again. Never thought I’d find someone who would love Aurora as her own

I forced myself to focus on the work in front of me. The detailed plans for our trip needed finalizing, and I needed to arrange additional patrols during my absence. As long as I could feel Aria through our bond, I wouldn’t worry too much. Knowing she was safe that was what mattered most

Why are you introducing her as your 2nd chance mate? You were told she is your true mate & Vanessa used black magic to trick you into feeling the mate bond
