Chapter 103
Aria calmly interrupted her mother’s words, the indifference in her demeanor making Helen even more uneasy.
“Aria, aren’t we family? Is it necessary to be so calculating?”
“Family?” Aria silently repeated the word, trying to find the emotions and warmth she desired in the concept of “family,” but unfortunately, she found none.
“The care you’ve shown me from childhood to adulthood wasn’t even a fraction of what you gave my brother. You speak of being family, but I’ve always felt like an outsider. I really don’t understand–if you only wanted to love Charlie, why didn’t you just abort me when you were pregnant?”
“You’re different from him!”
Helen suddenly raised her voice, drawing the attention of other restaurant patrons.
Helen realized her emotions were spiraling out of control, her face paling. “Anyway, you’re just… different from your brother.”
Aria suddenly burst into bitter laughter, her eyes reddening. “We’re both your children. What makes us so different in the end?”
Helen avoided her gaze and remained silent.
Not receiving an answer, Aria didn’t bother pressing further. After all, her mother’s attitude was crystal clear.
Perhaps this conversation would make it easier to leave Boston in two months without any lingering guilt or regret.
Aria smiled sadly to herself. When the food arrived, she didn’t touch her forks. She simply drank the water in her glass, then stood up, and said, “I’m giving you exactly two months. If Charlie doesn’t pass the Council of Elders‘ judgment in two months, everything related to the Ashworth Pack will have nothing to do with me.”
“At that time, whether you seek help from Kane or anyone else, don’t come looking for me–because I won’t be found.”
Aria picked up her bag and left with a hollow smile.
Helen stood motionless, not understanding the meaning behind her daughter’s final words, nor did she think much about their implications.
