Eleanor chuckled and accepted the gift. “You’re quite thoughtful, my dear.”
“Please open it and take a look!”
Selena urged with obvious excitement.
Eleanor reluctantly unwrapped the gift. Inside the box lay a white jade piece of exquisite quality–pure and lustrous.
Dorian’s mate, Miranda Ravencrest, immediately offered praise. “Mother, Selena knows you treasure jade above all else, so she specially selected a jade gift for you.”
Victoria glanced at Miranda with obvious disdain, looking down on her sister–in–law’s calculated flattery and finding it transparently artificial.
This kind of sycophantic behavior was something only Miranda would display.
Aria stood among them but didn’t speak, not wanting to disrupt the family dynamics.
She knew that Eleanor had two sons: the eldest being Kane’s father Bernard Ravencrest, a respected diplomat and Eleanor’s most cherished heir, and Marcus, the second son, who was less capable than his brother. Currently, he could only serve as vice chairman at “Lunar Dynamics Medical,” the company Eleanor had founded.
Eleanor placed the jade statue back in its box. “Well chosen.”
“Actually, this was selected with Sera’s help!”
Selena had originally intended to help Seraphina gain favor with Eleanor, but unknowingly stepped directly onto Eleanor’s most sensitive nerve.
Miranda and Dorian both looked mortified.
Eleanor’s face showed no emotion. “Who helped you choose this?”
Selena bit her lip, took Eleanor’s arm, and tried to change the elder’s attitude. “Grandmother, you really misunderstood Sera back then. Sera didn’t approach Kane for power or money like some people do!”
She hinted obviously, then raised her chin and gestured pointedly toward Aria.
Aria genuinely wanted to laugh at the absurdity.
If no one else were present, she might have actually laughed aloud.
Before Eleanor could respond, Dorian/immediately interrupted his daughter. “Enough! How dare you speak such nonsense in front of your grandmother and Luna Aria!”
