“Really?” Jasper blinked with the innocent confusion of a pup.
He didn’t understand the adult games being played around him.
But he knew that as long as what he did could make his mother happy and earn her praise, it was a good thing.
Seraphina smiled and touched his face with fingers that carried traces of magical warmth. “Jasper, you also really want Kane to be your daddy, don’t you?”
He nodded happily, his pup instincts responding to the magical encouragement.
Seraphina’s smile grew colder, her half witch blood revealing her true nature. “So you must make sure to please Kane and make him like you more, understand?”
He nodded eagerly, his young mind already being shaped by her influence. “I will!”
Kane had just arrived at the Ravencrest Goup when his assistant, Celia Evans, approached him and said, “Alpha Ravencrest, Elder Ravencrest is waiting for you in your office.”
Kane nodded and walked into the office.
Elder Ravencrest sat on the sofa, elegantly sipping her coffee with the grace of a former Luna. She looked up at the approaching Alpha and said, “I heard you arranged for that Seraphina to be placed in Aria’s hospital?”
Kane loosened his tie, his wolf stirring restlessly as he sat across from her. “Did Aria file a complaint?”
Elder Ravencrest slammed down her coffeecup heavily, the sound sharp enough to make lesser wolves flinch. “Kane, why do you always suspect your mate? Would Aria be the kind of wolf to betray you?”
Kane gave a faint smile. “She won’t.”
“How Aria bonded into the Ravencrest pack back then, and how you forced me to accept this mating, I haven’t forgotten.”
Elder Ravencrest’s face darkened slightly. “If she really wanted to cause trouble, does that Seraphina still have a chance to return to this territory?”
Kane fell silent for a moment, meeting his grandmother’s steely gaze. “Don’t touch her again,” he said, his voice carrying Alpha protection.
Elder Ravencrest laughed scornfully. “She took ten million from me to leave you back then. What’s so good about a female who forgets loyalty for profit!”
“If it weren’t for you meddling, would she have left?”
