The next morning, when Aria woke up, the nanny was already making breakfast.
Kane didn’t come back last night, probably spending it with Seraphina and her pup again.
She pulled out a chair and sat down, just about to have breakfast, when her phone rang. On the other end, Helen was sobbing, “Aria, Mom knows you’re not living well in the powerful pack you mated into, but this time, please, help Charlie.”
That sentence “knowing that you were suffering in the powerful pack” really struck a chord with her wolf.
Mother knew the truth about her situation.
But when she found out she was going to sever her bond with Kane, Helen didn’t stand by her side…
Aria gripped her fork tightly, her voice hoarse. “I already told Kane last night.”
Just for the family, just for herself.
“What did he say then?”
“He said he would talk about it another day.” Aria just paraphrased his exact words, the dismissal still stinging.
“Aria, Mom knew you wouldn’t just stand by and do nothing.” Helen interrupted happily, relief evident in her voice. “Don’t worry, once this Charlie situation is resolved, I won’t cause you any more trouble.”
Helen hung up the phone in a hurry, as if afraid Aria would change her mind and no longer help.
Aria fell silent for a few seconds, put down her phone, and mechanically had breakfast, the food tasteless despite the care that had gone into preparing it.
At noon, Aria had just returned to the hospital when she walked out of the elevator and saw Seraphina talking to several
nurses at the nurse’s station.
Seraphina was distributing small gifts to all the nurses, packages containing Tom Ford lipsticks and Tiffany & Co. Jewelry.
“Ms. Cross, Alpha Ravencrest is too good to you!”
“Exactly! This is Alpha Ravencrest and Ms. Cross’s romance, never expected that even we would benefit!”
Seraphina’s eyes twinkled with a calculated smile, wanting to say something modest when she turned her head and spotted
Aria.
She picked up a remaining gift box and walked towards Aria with practiced grace. “Dr. Ashworth, this is a little token of my appreciation. All medical staff received one, this one is for you.”
Aria glanced down at the small gift in Seraphina’s hand. She had given gifts to all the medical staff, and if she refused in public, she would appear ungracious and petty.
Especially when other wolves were watching.

Aria took it and said lightly, “Thank you.”
She walked past Seraphina and entered her office, casually tossing the small gift into a cabinet drawer.
She did receive it.
But whether to use it or not was another matter entirely.
