Seraphina walked in at the moment, still smiling on her face. “Dr. Ashworth, do you know Kane well?”
Aria turned on her computer and looked at Seraphina’s probing eyes.
“Not familiar.”
“I thought you were close with Kane.” Seraphina pretended to be regretful, then smiled with false warmth. “But it’s okay, in the future if you need anything, you can come to me and I’ll talk to Kane for you. Kane is such a perfect Alpha, you have no idea. Last night, Jasper had a fever, and Kane came over in the middle of the night just to take care of him.”
Aria’s breath caught.
Last night she had already guessed that Kane went to see Seraphina.
But she hadn’t expected it was because Seraphina’s son was unwell, and Kane had rushed to care for the child like a devoted
father.
Thinking back to when she was feeling unwell before, she had hoped Kane would be by her side, but instead, she received only
his cold indifference…
Aria suppressed the feeling of loss in her heart and came to her senses. “Really? That’s great. He’s very devoted as a father
figure.”
Seraphina had wanted to test the waters regarding Aria’s relationship with Kane.
But she didn’t expect Aria to misunderstand and assume Kane was actually Jasper’s father.
This made things even easier for her plans.
Seraphina didn’t explain, she just smiled with hidden satisfaction. “Yes, he’s planning to register Jasper officially.”
Aria’s expression froze, her wolf going very still.
Official registration?
Did Kane want to formally acknowledge Jasper as his heir?
“Ms. Cross, a patient is looking for you for consultation.”
The nurse’s voice came from outside the door, breaking the tension.
After Seraphina responded, she looked at Aria with barely concealed triumph. “Sorry, Dr. Ashworth, I have to go tend to my duties first.”
She turned around and walked away, a hint of satisfaction flashing in her eyes.
Aria’s clenched hand slowly loosened.
