His amber eyes darkened slightly.
Aria really wanted to laugh at the absurdity of it all.
Without avoiding Seraphina’s calculating gaze, she said calmly, “I just happened to run into Alpha Ravencrest and had a brief conversation with him, but we’re not really acquainted.”
Kane’s eyes grew cold in an instant, his wolf recoiling from her public denial.
Seraphina didn’t notice Kane’s darkening expression and smiled with false warmth. “Dr. Ashworth, do you need Kane’s help with something? If you don’t mind, you can ask me too. Kane is very busy, and he tends to be distant with other females. I’m afraid you might take it personally.”
He was distant with other females….
Aria couldn’t refute this statement.
After all, she had a deep understanding of his indifference.
“No, thank you.”
Aria no longer looked at the pair and went into her office.
Kane glanced at her office door, his deep eyes filled with unreadable emotions.
Seraphina gritted her teeth in frustration.
She had a growing sense that Kane’s relationship with Aria was definitely not as simple as it appeared.
Though she just couldn’t figure out the exact nature of their connection.
Over the years, she had inquired extensively about Kane’s life in the country, and when she found out that there were not many females around Kane, she felt confident enough to return with her child.
After coming back, she appeared before him as a struggling single mother. Kane was willing to help her and her son, but was it just because he felt guilty towards her?
If that’s the case, only when Kane believed it was that Elder Ravencrest had broken them up and forced her into exile, making her live so miserably, could she regain control of his heart and his wolf’s loyalty.
She asked with calculated sweetness, “Kane, did Dr. Ashworth encounter some problem? Should I help her?”
Kane withdrew his gaze from Aria’s office. “You don’t need to get involved in that issue and be associated with that useless
person.”
He turned and left with decisive finality.
