He hung up the phone, Kane flicked the metal lighter and lit a cigarette. The white smoke momentarily blurred the night view outside the window as he gazed into the distance, lost in thought.
The next day, Aria saw a patient with meningitis. Since the medication couldn control the abscess growth, surgery was quickly scheduled for drainage.
Two hours later, Aria walked out of the operating room and informed the family members about the surgery.
Wallace and Nigel were just near the operating room, with the former jokingly saying, “Looks like our department finally has a young and beautiful chief surgeon, huh?”
Nigel looked at Aria, didn’t answer, didn’t deny either.
Wallace was surprised, “You didn’t argue with me?” Nigel rarely admits to complimenting girls!
He looked away and said casually, “Young and beautiful, I guess.”
Nigel didn’t stop, he just turned and left, leaving Wallace standing there in surprise.
Aria changed out of her surgical gown, and as soon as she stepped out, she received a WhatsApp message from Penelope. She accepted the weekend invitation and even sent a cute emoji.
She looked down and replied to Penelope’s message when suddenly a man’s voice beside her asked, “What’s your relationship with Rowan?”
Aria was startled and turned to look at the tall and handsome man leaning against the staircase.
She suddenly remembered the words she heard in Nigel’s office that day, “Just ordinary alumni.”
“Not necessarily.”
“What’s my relationship with him, is Prof. Morrison very interested?”
He paused, shook his head, “Not interested, but he’s my friend, just asking.” After a few seconds, he added, “Just curious, the mating bond you mentioned ending, was it because of him?”
Aria suddenly laughed, “Oh, you got it all wrong, of course not.”
Nigel nodded, didn’t say anything, and then left.
Aria watched his back in confusion, not sure what he was thinking.
She worked the afternoon shift at three o’clock, had to go back for a break at noon, just stepped out of the elevator, and suddenly saw a few familiar
figures.
The woman in charge was Celia!
Aria suddenly turned around, clutching her handbag tightly, and quickly walked away in the opposite direction.
Celia casually turned her head and saw a familiar figure in the crowd, but it disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Aria left from the back door of the hospital, and when she didn’t see anyone following her, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
