Chapter 88
Aria slept in the guest room that night and had her first restful sleep in weeks.
It wasn’t until the next morning’s breakfast that she encountered Kane at the dining table. He looked like he hadn’t slept well, a rare hint of frigor showing on his handsome features.
Margaret brought breakfast, expecting Arla to serve Kane as she usually did, but when the saw Aria’s indifferent reaction, she was taken aback.
The housekeeper seemed to sense the subtle tension between the banded pair.
Had they argued?
Kane fastened his cuff his gaze fixed on the breakfast spread, suddenly remembering how Aria used to wake up early to prepare meals for him whenever he stayed at Moonrise Apartments.
But now it seemed she got up later than him, showing no concern for his needs or comfort.
He picked up his utensils slowly, watching her eat as if he didn’t exist. His jaw tightened with irritation as he set down his fork
“Alpha Ravencrest, was breakfast not to your liking?”
Margaret looked worried.
Would her salary he docked if the meal wasn’t satisfactory?
Aria paused momentarily but said nothing.
“No appetite.”
Kane stood, grabbed his coat from the chair back, and left abruptly,
Margaret hesitated, watching the door close heavily, then turned back with a confused expression. “Luna Arla, did… did I prepare something wrong today?”
Aria shook her head helplessly. “Margaret, don’t overthink it. He lost his appetite for reasons that have nothing to do with your cooking.”
Margaret looked embarrassed, with a nervous smile. “That’s good, as long as my job isn’t in jeopardy,”
After thinking for a moment, she said, “And don’t blame me for being presumptuous, Luna Ariarbut I can tell that Alpha Ravencrest cares about you. Otherwise he wouldn’t be so affected by your behavior.”
Aria was stunned by the suggestion.
Did Kane care about her?
This was probably the most absurd notion she’d heard in years.
Her expression grew stiff. “Margaret, are you…
“How could I be wrong? When Alpha Ravencrest used to have breakfast here before, you would always fuss about whether he was eating properly and sleeping well I observed it all Alpha Ravencrest is upset today because you didn’t show him any attention, right?”
