Chapter 3: Chapter 3

I stared at Vincent in shock, wondering what fresh madness had seized him.

“Isabella Romano, we had a clear agreement that Sophia would be the Maid of Honor tomorrow. I asked the wedding planner, so why did he tell me he knew nothing about it?”

“Are you doing this on purpose to mess with me? Do you want to publicly humiliate Sophia tomorrow?”

So that was it. His towering rage was because the wedding schedule didn’t reserve a place of honor for his mistress.

But I had already planned to bow out and let them have their happiness. There was never going to be a ceremony for the three of us.

“Isabella, I know you’re angry that Vincent is so protective of me, but he really just pities me and wants to give me some support. If you don’t want me at the wedding, you can just say so. Why create a scandal tomorrow?”

Sophia continued, “The Kane family is a prominent one with a reputation to uphold. A fiancée causing a jealous scene at her own wedding, completely disregarding the consequences… What will Chicago’s high society say about Vincent? How will he ever be able to hold his head high again?”

With that, she actually dropped to her knees with a thud on the cold stone steps.

“Isabella, please, just have a peaceful wedding with Vincent tomorrow. I won’t go. I only ask that you don’t embarrass him in front of everyone.”

“As long as Vincent truly loves me, the wedding is just a formality. I don’t care about such a superficial title.”

She spoke with a mix of stubbornness and grievance. With every word she uttered, Vincent’s expression darkened.

“Isabella Romano, do you have to be so aggressive?”

“Are you so determined to humiliate Sophia that you’d force me to be a cruel and faithless man? Who would dare spend their life with a vicious woman like you?”

Since we were at the manor gate, several visiting associates and our family’s bodyguards had gathered nearby.

A portly politician sighed, “This girl… she knows that Kane boy has someone on the side, yet she’s still insistent on marrying him. She must really be after his family’s potential.”

“It’s normal for a man to have a female confidante. If she were more magnanimous, this would all blow over. Making a scene at the front door is so humiliating.”

“It’s no wonder the Romano family’s Principessa is so stubborn. After all, they’ve been entangled for over a decade. Everyone in Chicago knows that if the Kane family doesn’t marry her, she’ll have no choice but to marry a commoner and will never make it in this circle again.”

Their words were like daggers dipped in poison, piercing my chest. Seeing my face turn deathly pale, Vincent thought I was scared and grew smug.

“Isabella, I’m not that heartless. As long as you don’t make a scene and accept Sophia, I’ll still marry you in grand style tomorrow and make you Mrs. Kane.”

But in my past life, this heartless beast not only caused my father’s death, but he also stood by and watched his own son die. Watching him now, so smug and acting like a paragon of virtue, I found it incredibly ironic.

He probably really thought he was some kind of Casanova.

Perhaps my expression was too desolate, because a flicker of guilt crossed Vincent’s face.

“Isabella, I just got a little carried away. I spoke too harshly.”

“Don’t worry, after we’re married, you’ll always be the lady of the house. Sophia will have to treat you with respect. How about this? I’ll sleep with her on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. And on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, I’ll stay in your bed and fuck you. How’s that?”

“See? I’m still favoring you. So stop throwing a princess tantrum.”

Hearing his arrogant words, I couldn’t help but want to burst out laughing.

He really thinks he’s some kind of emperor, and that every woman is desperate for his cock.

That’s right. In my last life, I saw him go on vacation with Sophia and flew into such a rage that I refused to eat or drink, crying and throwing tantrums to make him stay.

But in this life, whether he wants to take Sophia to the movies or out for a fancy dinner, it has nothing to do with me anymore.

Forcing a man whose heart isn’t with you to stay will only leave you feeling disgusted with yourself.

“Alright, Vincent, it’s getting late, and the wedding is tomorrow. We should both get some rest.”

Vincent’s expression darkened at my indifferent attitude. He moved closer, speaking in a low, menacing voice that only the two of us could hear:

“You had better behave tomorrow and let Sophia be the bridesmaid. Otherwise, don’t blame me when I call off the wedding on the spot and leave you standing alone at the altar. After that, I’d like to see what man would dare to want damaged goods like you.”
