He’d always been cute, but his old attitude scared other kids. Now acting sweet, those Russell good looks really showed.
“Nope,” Eliana said, immune to his puppy eyes. “Your mom would say I’m a bad influence.”
“I promise I’ll be good. No shenanigans.” It was Valentine’s Day, and with Theodore gone, Jayden wanted Eliana to himself.
Seeing how eager he was, Eliana hesitated. He had been better lately.
But then she remembered his 37/100 math score and shook her head. “Here’s a deal–when you pass math, take you out for a whole day.”
Jayden’s shoulders dropped. “Okay, fine,” he said glumly
His quietness actually made Eliana feel bad. She pinky–swore she’d keep her promise before heading out.
But instead of going back to study like he’d said, Jayden sneaked to the foyer to put on his shoes as soon as she left.
Amaid hurried over. “Mr. Russell, where are you off to?”
Jayden turned, barking an order. “Shhl Stand guard outside my room. If Mom asks, say I’m asleep. Don’t let her in. Got that?”
“But Mr. Russell, if Mrs. Russell finds out, I’m toast!” The maid fretted.
“Then you’ll be toast right now if you don’t do it,” Jayden growled. “Go!”
The maid gulped. “Yes, sir.”
