When Anthony heard Alice was eager to take action, his voice turned icy in an instant. “You haven’t cleared up the mess you made this time and are already looking to stir up trouble again?”
Alice was stunned.
Anthony sat down on a sofa and talked to her face–to–face. “Do you know why you always fail? It’s because you’ve never made a plan that lets you get out unscathed.”
Alice couldn’t help but bite her lower lip.
There seemed to be a layer of frost in Anthony’s eyes. “You think knowing a few tricks to threaten people makes you great? Besides threatening me, your ally, you can’t handle Theodore or Eliana at all.”
Alice had to admit that she was really lacking in this area.
Anthony could make a ceiling lamp fall and hurt her foot, could cause his grandmother to remain in a coma, and even plotted Theodore’s car accident two years ago.
None of these incidents could be traced back to him, and it just showed how capable he was.
In contrast, Alice had stranded herself due to countless mistakes. She couldn’t push Anthony, her ally, away. With that thought, she compromised. “Sorry, I was too impulsive, but I just wanted to help you get things done faster.”
“I’ve endured for so many years. I don’t need to achieve my plan faster,” Anthony said, then stood up. “Alright, stay here. Call me anytime you need something, and I’ll send someone to handle it.”
Alice touched her lower abdomen and nodded softly. Her happiness had been so short. Now, she could only rely on her child.
Just as she walked Anthony to the door, she saw, two familiar people standing outside. After a moment’s shock, Alice cried out, “Dad? Mom?”
The middle–aged couple in front of her were Alice’s parents–the people she felt sorry about and most wanted to avoid.
Since her parents found out she was with Anthony, they’d grown distant. She knew she’d failed their teachings, so she’d almost avoided them by staying at Russell Manor, thinking she’d bring them over to share her glory once she’d made it big.
She was sure they’d then understand why she’d played the Russell brothers off each other. In the face of supreme glory, ethics and honor meant nothing.
While Alice was at a loss over her parents‘ arrival, Anthony was already smiling at them. “Good to see you here.”
Wesley Powell, a university professor, just nodded indifferently at Anthony as a greeting. Beth Powell had a bulging bag slung over her left arm, which seemed to be their luggage.

After a few seconds, Alice snapped out of it and asked Anthony, “What’s going on? Why are my parents here?”
Anthony wore a proper smile. “When we left, I took the liberty of sending them the address of Oakcrest Villa.”

“How could you—” Alice panicked. She had no idea why he would do that. She hadn’t been mentally prepared at all.
Anthony reached out to softly rub her belly and said gently, “I told them you’re pregnant. How could they not come to see their grandchild? Besides, you haven’t seen each other in ages. Don’t you miss one another at all?”
Alice indeed missed her parents, but she didn’t want them to see she had gone downhill. She wanted to bring them over once she was living in glory at Russell Manor and became the family’s hostess.
“Come on, don’t make parents stand outside. Invite them in,” Anthony reminded her.
Alice forced a smile and invited them inside. While they looked around, she lowered her voice and accused Anthony, “Why didn’t you talk to me about this before inviting them? Anthony, what are you really up to?”
Anthony smiled, “Calm down. Anxiety is bad for the baby. You need care. If I hired a caretaker, you’d definitely get suspicious. Better to have your parents take care of you–you’ll feel safer that way.”
Alice looked at him skeptically. “Is that all your plan?”
Of course it wasn’t. His real intention was to use Alice’s parents to keep her in check.

Wesley and Beth had lived upright lives and strongly disapproved of their daughter leaving Theodore for Anthony.
They hadn’t even wanted to attend her engagement party to witness her happy moment. If Alice dared to mess around under their noses, the consequences would be clear.
Alice’s thoughts were led astray by him. “How would you explain why I moved out instead of resting at Russell Manor?”
Anthony said lightly, “Simple. Just say you and my brother don’t get along, and you didn’t want his disturbance while pregnant, so you chose to move out.”
“But–” Alice was about to ask more when Beth called softly, “Alice, come here.”
“Coming, Mom.” Alice hurried over.
Beth asked, “Where is our room?”
Alice answered very considerately, “Mom, all the rooms are upstairs. I’ll find you the biggest one.”
Beth said, “Size doesn’t matter. It just needs to be close to the study. Your father reads every night.” Alice nodded. “Okay. Let’s take the elevator up.”
Suddenly, Wesley said, “Why take the elevator for such a short distance? Cast your extravagant lifestyle.” 2/3

Alice had to agree. “Then we’ll take the stairs.”
As the three went upstairs, Wesley, hands behind his back, said sternly to Alice, “From now on, come to my room every night to read. Don’t let the child grow up as utilitarian as you.”
Alice hung her head. “Okay, Dad.”
Downstairs, Anthony silently withdrew his gaze and walked away in satisfaction.

At nine, after her shower, Eliana came out of the bathroom, only to find Samuel standing by her bed, with a row of medical equipment laid out on it, glinting coldly under the light.
Eliana swallowed and asked nervously, “Dr. Wilson, what are you doing?”
Samuel turned around and smiled at her. “Give you therapy. It can help flush out toxins.” After all, she’d been
eating contraceptive–laced food for over a week. Without proper detoxing, it would build up in her body and cause health problems.
Eliana asked sharply, “What toxins?
Realizing he’d slipped up, Samuel rubbed his nose awkwardly and tried to make it up. “Uh, I mean it can strengthen your constitution. Then you won’t get stomachaches even if in cold water.”
“Really?” Eliana felt she was close to uncovering the truth.
Samuel had just said there was something wrong with her uterus last night, and Alice had left Russell Manor this morning. Besides, the chef had resigned, and Mindy had disappeared–all happening overnight.

What confused her even more was the painting Jayden had given her. She thought, ‘Why would he paint two children for me out of the blue? Was he worried that I couldn’t have kids?‘
