Eliana looked at Theodore’s handsome but unreadable face and said cautiously, “I just need to put on some makeup and change. I’ll be out of your way in no time.”
Hearing the detached, businesslike tone in her voice, Theodore swallowed the words he was originally going to say.
Eliana was just relieved he didn’t throw her out. She didn’t dare waste a second and grabbed a change of clothes from her suitcase before heading straight into the bathroom.
Theodore listened to her hurried footsteps, his expression growing colder. He thought, ‘She just can’t wait to get away from me, huh?‘
When Eliana came out again, she saw a shattered glass at his feet. She frowned slightly, thinking, ‘What now? Did I take too long to get ready?‘
She immediately picked up her bag and said, “I’m done. Bye.”
Theodore snapped coldly, “That’s it? You want me to step on the broken glass on the floor and slice my foot open?”
“If you don’t want to get hurt, maybe stop throwing things, Mr. Russell,” Eliana shot back without thinking.
Theodore narrowed his eyes, thinking, ‘She’s actually talking back to me? Where did she get the guts–Lainey? Or Anthony?‘
His voice dropped icily. “Eliana, were you really bought by my grandfather to take care of me? You’re putting me in a terrible mood.”
That remark did remind Eliana–there was indeed an unequal agreement between them. Her job, assigned by her father, was to take care of Theodore and help him out of the darkness his blindness had put him in, both literally and emotionally.
She thought, ‘So why am I even getting mad at Theodore? Just because I somehow ended up losing my virginity to him, I subconsciously assumed I had the right to throw a fit?
‘But in the end, nothing between us has really changed. What happened that night was just an accident!
With that thought settled, Eliana walked over and crouched in front of Theodore, picking up the shards of the broken glass.
Hearing her breathing shift from tense to steady, as if she’d just worked through something and let it go, Theodore couldn’t help but press her. “Say something, Eliana.”
Eliana replied flatly, “You’re right. From a transactional standpoint, I really should clean it up before I leave, so you don’t get hurt. That way, I can still go to your grandfather for payment later.”
For some reason, that made Theodore inexplicably angry. He reached out, trying to grab Eliana’s wrist, but instead grabbed the shard of glass in her hand by mistake. He let out a muffled grunt as it jabbed him.
Eliana quickly checked his hand. Seeing there was no blood, she relaxed a little and muttered, “You really are bad–tempered and reckless.”
Theodore raised a sharp brow. “What did you just say?”
“I said thank goodness you didn’t get hurt.” Eliana leaned down and gently blew on his reddened palm. She then asked tentatively, “Can I come back and sleep here tonight?”
There was a slight ‘stir in Theodore’s chest as he felt her soft breath on his skin. Now hearing her say she wanted to come back and stay, he almost nodded without thinking.
But then he remembered what the maid had said last night, and suddenly, he wasn’t so easy to please. “Didn’t you choose the

farthest room from me on purpose last night?” he questioned.
“That was Wyatt’s doing. I didn’t have a choice, Eliana explained.
Theodore gave a faint smile. Then from now on, don’t listen to him. Only listen to me.”

At Starlight Media, just before the lunch break, someone lightly tapped Eliana’s desk and said, “Ellie, Ms. Hannah Burke wants to see you in her office.”
“Got it,” Eliana responded as she stood up and made her way there.
Hannah’s office was completely separate from the others, located right by the riverside. The space was filled with floral arrangements, oozing taste and refinement–and unmistakably flaunting the special favor Nolan had shown her.
