Chapter 45
Eliana asked, “Why is Lainey so afraid of you?”

“It’s nothing more than guilt,” Theodore replied, then gently reminded her. “Didn’t you say your clothes are soaked? Go take a hot shower.”
“Alright.” Eliana did feel uncomfortable all over, so she grabbed a set of pajamas and walked into the bathroom.
But she didn’t close the door right away. Her curiosity was eating at her, and she continued to ask, “I know Lainey’s not nice to you, but since she treats you so badly, why is she so scared of you?”
Seeing Eliana begin to undress without shutting the door, Theodore gritted his teeth, thinking in frustration, ‘Does she even realize what she’s doing?‘
Eliana, on the other hand, didn’t think much about it. She kept the door open simply because he couldn’t see.
As more of her skin was revealed, Theodore’s throat tightened. He had to force his gaze away and said in a low voice, “Lainey insulted and trampled the version of me who locked himself in his room all day, living like the walking dead. Understand?”
Eliana looked half puzzled, and she said, “But if you were capable of making her this afraid, why didn’t you show up in front of them sooner?”
He surely had his reason. Until his eyesight fully returned, he had to endure. As for why he suddenly chose not to endure it tonight, maybe it was because when Lainey turned to glare at him, Eliana stepped in front of him without a second thought.
Looking back on it now, Theodore found it almost laughable. He thought, ‘With her slender arms and delicate frame, she even thinks she can protect me. That’s absurd.
When she didn’t get an answer, Eliana glanced at him and urged, “Mr. Russell?”
Hearing her voice, Theodore instinctively turned around and immediately saw that she was nearly naked.
His breath caught in his throat. To keep her from noticing anything, he brushed it off. “You’ll understand it someday.”
Then he turned and began walking as if nothing had happened. A second later, Theodore bumped squarely into a low cabinet. He froze on the spot.
Behind him, Eliana called out, “Are you okay?”
Fearing she might rush over to check on him, he snapped, “I’m fine!”
“What’s with the yelling? If you’re fine, then say it normally. Geez, he’s so touchy, Eliana muttered inwardly.
She pursed her lips, pulled the bathroom door shut, and started to shower.
Meanwhile, in another room, Jayden was sulking. “Mommy, didn’t you say you were giving that woman a good scolding? Why did you just let her go?”
Lainey struggled to compose herself and replied, “Don’t ask, Jayden. Go get Anthony here.”
Seeing his mother dodge his question, Jayden grew even more frustrated. He grumbled in his mind, ‘So Mommy’s not going to help me anymore. Looks like I’ll have to take revenge myself.

Chapter 45
Moments later, Anthony stepped out of the elevator and walked over to Lainey. He spoke up, “Mom? What’s wrong?”
When Lainey saw the side of his face, still swollen from earlier, a mix of anger and heartache rose in her chest.

One of her sons was beaten by Theodore, while the other was humiliated by Eliana, and she couldn’t do a damn thing about
it
Lainey answered, “Honey, just now…
After recounting everything that had happened, Lainey lowered her voice, a chill running through her. “In the past, no matter how much I let others abuse him, he never stepped à foot out of his room. But tonight, he changed.”
It was as if a lion, dormant for far too long, had suddenly broken out of its cage and bared its claws and fangs at her.
Anthony smirked and said, “Looks like I provoked him too hard that day. Now, he’s scrambling to change himself.”
Lainey clutched his arm, desperate. Then what do we do, Anthony? We can’t let him recover.
Theodore’s eyesight, his love, his power, and even his will were stripped by us. If he comes back from this one day, if he starts digging into the truth of that car accident… Lainey didn’t dare finish the thought.
