At this moment, Eliana had just stepped out of the bathroom.
But Theodore, relying on his sharp hearing, came storming out to grab her–only to stumble when he caught his foot on the step outside the door.
“Careful.” Luckily, Eliana rushed forward in time to steady him.
A faint, pleasant scent rose to Theodore’s nose as she drew closer, and for a moment, he froze.
Ever since the car accident, almost everyone had left Theodore. Even his first love who’d once sworn she’d stand by him through anything had turned around and fallen into the arms of his enemy.
And now, the one person reaching out to hold him was doing it for his grandfather’s money.
With that thought, Theodore calmed himself down and pulled his hand away from hers, his face full of disgust. “Eliana, do you think getting physically close to me like this is going to make me do something to you?”
Eliana was speechless. She thought, ‘Weren’t you the one who came charging at me first, Mr. Russell?‘
After he finished, Theodore began feeling his way back toward the bed.
Eliana took a deep breath, reminded herself not to argue with someone who couldn’t see, and followed behind him to ask, “Are you hungry? Wyatt just brought some food over. Do you want to eat while it’s still hot?”
Once Theodore sat down on the edge of the bed, he asked flatly, “What did he bring?”
“Just oatmeal and steamed broccoli,” Eliana said, then glanced at his face. Seeing that he didn’t look the least bit surprised, she could easily guess that this wasn’t the first time.
The next second, Theodore remarked, “Bring it here.”
Eliana walked over, looked at his eyes, and hesitated for a moment before asking, “Do you need me to feed you?”
Theodore let out a scornful snort. “I’m blind, not paralyzed.”
Then Eliana handed him the bowl of oatmeal first. Just as she was about to feel a hint of relief when he took the bowl without protest, the next second, he tipped it and dumped all the oatmeal out.
“What are you doing?” Eliana’s expression changed. If she hadn’t stepped back in time, the hot oatmeal would’ve scalded her foot.
As Theodore heard the panic in her voice, a sick satisfaction flickered across his face. “I’m just dumping the trash.”
Eliana forced herself not to get mad. “If you don’t like this, you could’ve just told me. I can take you downstairs for a proper meal, okay?”
Theodore let out a cold laugh. “You idiot. Do you really think they’d let a blind man like me sit at the table?”
Eliana froze, and a terrifying thought struck her. She thought, ‘Is Lainey planning to just leave Theodore to rot in this lightless room? What about me?‘
Whatever kind of life Theodore had lived before wasn’t her business, but now she was his wife. If something happened to him under her watch, the promises Hudson had made her would vanish.
With that in mind, she had no choice but to pull herself together and say to Theodore, “I’m stepping out for a minute.” Then she turned and left the room.
As the sound of her hurried footsteps faded, the corners of Theodore’s mouth curled into a cold smile.
He thought, ‘Same old story. The servants who once swore loyalty now curse me under their breath and spill food on me on purpose. And as for this brand–new wife of mine? She already lost her patience and ran off.‘

Downstairs in the dining room, Eliana arrived just in time to see the servants carrying out platters of luxurious dishes from the kitchen
At that moment, Wyatt was instructing them, “Mr. Anthony Russell will be bringing Ms. Powell to dinner later. I want you all on your best behaver mess this up.”
