Chapter 6
The moment I landed back in Los Angeles, everything between Atlas and me stayed behind in New York.
I was completely done with it all.
Things that aren’t worth it–were not even worth mentioning.
“Sis, Logan’s waiting inside. Go ahead – I won’t come with you.”
Even though I’d agreed to this arranged engagement over the phone, today was my first time actually meeting him. It was like opening a mystery box.
My fingers tensed up and my heart started rating.
I glanced at Ryker, curious about this guy I’d never met but who my little brother couldn’t stop talking about.
I pushed open the door and froze.
The man had perfect posture and sharp, handsome features. The moment our eyes met, his face lit up with a smile, his voice carrying a hint of playful laziness.
Well, well… hello there, little miss slit–your–wrists–in–the–shower.”
My eye twitched.
Over a year ago when I tried to kill myself, he was my attending physician. He’d stayed with me in the ICU for a
vhole week.
But every time he talked to me, there was always some sarcasm mixed in, which kind of killed any gratitude I might

hadn’t seen him since.
ogan raised an eyebrow. “Tsk, I did save your life, you know. You gonna pretend you don’t know me?”
frowned slightly.
I’m not. And… thanks, for last time.”
The corner of his mouth curved up as he lowered his voice to match mine. “Mmm, you really are something. Taking
whole year to thank me for saving your ass.”
Let me calculate the interest on that.”
So, come on. How are you planning to thank me?”

Chapter 6
Logan scooted closer to me on the couch. His thigh–wrapped in tailored suit pants–brushed against the hem of my skirt. I could even feel his body heat.
His voice was teasing. “How about you cry in my arms for a bit? Just as a down payment?”
My eyelashes fluttered. I didn’t want to deal with his games.
Seeing I wasn’t responding, Logan changed the subject and started introducing himself.
Clean background, nice parents.
Most importantly…
“I’m single with zero dating experience. Besides you, there’s no one I like or have ever liked.”
That was a roundabout way of putting it. I was still processing when I caught the main point.
“You’ve never dated anyone? How is that possible?”
His eyes crinkled as he smiled. “Thanks for the vote of confidence. I saved your life, so you can teach me the ropes.
Help me graduate from being signle.”
My ears started burning.
He turned and sat down at the piano, playing my favorite song – “River Flows in You.”
The music calmed my nerves, and I found myself really looking at Logan.
From his eyes and eyebrows down to those pale, elegant wrists with expensive diamond cufflinks.
A thought suddenly popped into my head.
Marrying Logan and building a life with him could actually be a really good choice.
Then the music stopped.
When Logan looked over at me, I said seriously, “Same here. Right now, besides you, there’s no one I like.”
My heart had empty. And now, maybe it was ready to have a room for someone new slowly.
Logan raised an eyebrow, a ripple of laughter in his eyes.
