Chapter 8
When Atlas heard what I said, his face darkened.
Like he was afraid I might say something I shouldn’t, he grabbed Bella and left immediately.
Logan broke the awkward silence first. “So, that’s the guy you spent three years looking for, huh?”
I was a little surprised, but then again, not really.
My desperate search for Atlas was common knowledge in our social circle. It wasn’t shocking that Logan had heard
about it.
“Yeah.”
Logan lit up a cigarette, clearly irritated. “So that’s why you were such a fucking mess before.”
[ frowned. “What do you mean, a mess?”
You looked like shit. Always miserable. People probably thought your husband kicked the bucket.”
let out a soft laugh. “Well, now you’re my fiancé.”
He gave a slow smile, casually lifting his gaze. But for once, there was something serious behind his usually playful

Celeste, I’ve never pretended to be some kind of saint. You can lean on me, use me as your lifeline if you need to.”
But you’re engaged to me now. You should know what that means.”
here was a rare hint of jealousy in his voice. His meaning was crystal clear.
ater, I moved in with Logan.
In moving day, I saw Atlas waiting outside
hadn’t seen him since he left with Bella last week.
I was strange. I couldn’t forget him for three whole years.
ut in just one week, I hadn’t thought about him even once.
lis
eyes were slightly red, like he was frustrated and helpless at the same time.
tlas’s voice was rough. “I came back over a year ago. I went to New York looking for you, but some guy answered our phone. That was Logan, wasn’t it?”

Chapter 8
“Celeste, I fucking hated you in that moment.”
“I’d only been gone a year and you already had someone new. So I left again.”
“When I saw you at the wedding, all I felt was this twisted sense of revenge.”
“So I married Bella.”
I forced a smile and said quietly, “You want to know why he answered my phone over a year ago?”
He stared at me without blinking, waiting for my answer.
I looked right back at him and said each word slowly.
“I had depression. I tried to kill myself a year ago.”
“I couldn’t find you, so I slit my wrists in the bathroom. I wanted to be with you.”
“Logan was my doctor. He stayed with me in the ICU for a week.”
Atlas stared at me in shock, his face full of disbelief. His usually perfect posture crumpled as the pain hit him.
After a long moment, he opened his mouth but was shaking too hard to speak.
‘Celeste, would you wait for me?”
‘Bella’s pregnant. She saved my life once. I can’t leave her right now.”
‘But once she gives birth, I’ll divorce her. I’ll make everything up to you, okay…”
