“I’m not mad,” Sylvia said, looking Edwin directly in the eyes. After a pause, as if worried lie wouldn’t believe her, she added, “I caught a sad recently I didn’t want to get you sick”
“You’re sick? Are you okay? Is it serious?”
Hearing this, he showed no intention of keeping his distance. Instead, he pulled out his phone and began tapping away.
“The weather has gotten colder lately. Do you need more clothes? I’ll have someone deliver some new seasonal pieces for you.”
He moved so quickly that Sylvia couldn’t stop him. But then she thought, whatever, let him buy what he wants. She wouldn’t be using any of it anyway. When she left, she could just leave everything behind for his true love,
With this in mind, she didn’t dwell on it further. “I’m fine. Just take care of yourself. Your injuries aren’t fully healed–you should get back to the hospital.”
Her words sounded concerned, but her expressionless face made it seem more like she was trying to get rid of him. Edwin felt something was off but couldn’t pinpoint what. He convinced himself he was overthinking things.
He obediently stood to leave, but turning around, he noticed Sylvia still lying in bed with no intention of coming along. He immediately stopped, and when she looked at him, he said with a hint of hurt:
“If you don’t come with me, I’m not going.”
After a brief standoff, she sighed, resigned herself to the situation, got up, changed, and went downstairs with him.
At the hospital, Edwin remembered her cold and quickly summoned a doctor. Only after being assured it was nothing serious–just needing rest–did he relax.
Because his injuries weren’t fully healed, he stayed in the hospital for a few more days. During this time, Edwin was practically glued to Sylvia’s side. Wherever she went, he followed. Even when she went to the bathroom, he waited nearby.
The hospital nurses, whenever they saw one of them, would instinctively look around and inevitably spot the other not far away.
During these times, she often overheard comments from people around them.
“Mr. Wexford and Miss Ellery are so perfect together. Ugh, I wish I had a boyfriend like that.”
“Yeah, who wouldn’t? But come on, go to sleep–dreams have it all.”
Sylvia heard all these whispered comments, but they stirred nothing inside her.
All those people think they looked like the perfect couple.
Only Sylvia knew it was all an illusion. His clinginess had nothing to do with genuine love.
He was only sticking so close because she’d been acting differently lately. He was worried about complications before the wedding
In his mind, if the wedding didn’t proceed smoothly, she might go back to pursuing Matt, and how could his beloved Tiffany find happiness then?
Several more days passed, and Edwin was finally discharged from the hospital.
They had just gotten into the car when his phone rang. It was one of his friends calling.
“Hey man, there’s a meteor shower tonight. Bring Sylvia and come hang out with us?”
Meteor showers were rare, and since the invitation included Sylvia, Edwin didn’t hesitate before accepting.
Sylvia didn’t want to go, but fearing he’d notice something was off, she went along anyway.
When they arrived, she discovered that Edwin’s friends weren’t the only ones there–Tiffany was present too.
