We’d only met twice, so I couldn’t understand why he was saying such things.
I shook my head and said, “Mr. Reid, we’ve only seen each other twice. What you’re saying doesn’t feel real at all. I appreciate you keeping my secret, but I don’t like you.”
There was a flash of disappointment in Hunter’s eyes, but he didn’t seem surprised.
“I’ll show you how sincere I am,” he said firmly.
I let out a small laugh.
“You don’t really know me. I’m shallow. I’ll be a stand–in for money. I’ll chase after someone for money. I’m not like everyone else I’m an outcast. No one will ever truly
accept me.”
Hunter looked straight at me, his gaze unwavering.
Then, without a word, he grabbed my hand and started running.
We sprinted through the streets until we reached the shore.
Standing by the ocean, he smiled brightly at me.
“You’re beautiful. Who said you’re an outcast? You’re just trying to survive in your own
way.”
Besides my brother, no one had ever said something like that to me before.
Whether he was being honest or just trying to impress me, I felt grateful in that moment.
Hunter held my hand tightly and shouted toward the sea, “Luna, I really did fall for you at first sight! Please, give me a chance!”

Not far away, a group of people froze in their tracks.
One of them frowned and asked, “Did I just hear someone say ‘Luna‘?”
It was Ethan Greyson and his group of friends.
They turned toward the sound of Hunter’s voice, spotting him holding my hand.
Ethan’s face darkened immediately, his expression like a storm cloud.
One of his friends, confused, asked, “Wait, isn’t Luna the one who’s always chasing Ethan? So who’s that guy with her?”
Ethan couldn’t take it. Furious, he stormed over.
I froze. Out of all the places to run into Ethan, it had to be here.
Hunter immediately stepped in front of me, shielding me from Ethan and glaring at him.
Ethan clenched his jaw, his voice laced with anger.
“Luna, who is this guy? Didn’t you say you liked me the most?!”
My first reaction: Oh no. I’m doomed.
