(Amber’s POV)
The hospital room felt stifling. Sweat beaded on my forehead as I shifted uncomfortably in the bed. Dominte approached, offering me a tissue box with those elegant hands of his.
“Thank you,” I murmured, taking a tissue and dabbing at my brow
I couldn’t help but admire his hands–strong yet graceful, with long fingers and clean, trimmed nails. They would make perfect subjects for a photo series at Moonlight Photography. The thought flitted through my mind before I caught myself staring,
Our eyes met briefly before I looked away, suddenly self–conscious about my fabricated amnesia.
“You’re not a very good actress, Amber,” Dominic said, his votee low and steady.
My heart skipped a beat. “What do you mean?”
“I knew you were faking from the beginning.” He sat down in the chair beside my bed, his posture relaxed but commanding Your body was too stiff when you embraced me. There was subtle fear in your eyes–not the affection you were trying to portray.

I swallowed hard, unsure how to respond. He waited patiently, his piercing blue eyes never leaving my face
“Fine,” I admitted finally. “I was faking it.”
“Why?” There was no anger in his voice, just curiosity.
“I wanted a fresh start: I’m tired of being the jilted ex–fiancée.” I twisted the tissue between my fingers. “And I needed a believable reason to marry you without raising suspicions.”
I braced myself for his displeasure, perhaps even rejection. Instead, he nodded thoughtfully.
“I understand your motives, but I don’t approve of your methods.” His voice hardened slightly. “Deliberately injuring yourself was foolish and dangerous.”
“I didn’t-”
“Don’t lie to me again,” he interrupted, his blue eyes intense with genuine concern. “You saw Melissa throw herself down the stairs and decided to mirror her actions.”
My jaw dropped. “How did you-”
“The security guard at the Moonlight Club is quite observant.” Dominic’s expression remained unpassive. “He saw everything.”
“You were there?” I asked, astonished.
“No, but I have resources throughout Silvercrest City.” He said it so matter–of–factly that I couldn’t doubt him.
I sank back against the pillows, processing this revelation. He’d known everything all along yet still played along with my charade.
“Are you still willing to marry me?” I asked hesitantly.
“That depends.” He leaned forward slightly. “Do you still want to marry me? I won’t rush you if you need time.”
“Yes,” I said without hesitation. “I want to marry you.”
The certainty in my voice seemed to please him. His shoulders relaxed almost imperceptibly.
“We should discuss a prenuptial agreement,” I suggested. “To protect your assets in case-
He waved his hand dismissively. “That won’t be necessary.”

“But
“When we marry, we will complete the marking ceremony immediately.” His tone left no room for argument. “As soon as you’re released from the hospital.”
I blinked, surprised by his directness. The marking ceremony was sacred among werewolves–a permanent bond that went beyond human marriage contracts.
“You’re sure?” I asked, unable to hide my excitement.
“I am.” His gaze was steady. “Are you?”
“Yes,” I replied, perhaps too eagerly. “Absolutely yes,”
A ghost of a smile touched his lips before he stood up. “Good. Now, about your fever-”
He walked to the attached bathroom and returned with a basin of warm water and a soft towel.
“I can’t help you bathe until we’re marked,” he explained, setting the items on the bedside table. “I’ve called Paige to assist you.

My cheeks burned with embarrassment as I realized he must have overheard my delirious request to Paige during my fever.
“I’ll return after she arrives,” he said, mercifully ignoring my mortification.
After Dominic left, Paige burst through the door, her eyes bright with excitement.
“Is it true?” she demanded, dropping her purse on a chair. “You’re marrying Dominic Blackwood?”
“News travels fast,” I observed dryly,
“He called me himself!” Paige sat on the edge of my bed. “This is huge, Amber. He’s actually going through with it!”
“Did you think he wouldn’t?” I asked, slightly offended.
“I wasn’t sure,” she admitted. “But I’m impressed. He’s being very responsible about this—insisting on proper courtship traditions despite your… unconventional beginning.”
I snorted. “There’s nothing conventional about any of this.”
Paige helped me sit up and began unbuttoning my hospital gown. The point is, he’s taking this seriously. You should too.”
“I am taking it seriously,” I protested.
“I mean beyond the advantages it brings you.” She dipped the cloth in warm water. “Try to build something real with him.”
I remained silent as she gently bathed my face and neck.
“Dominic is a good man,” she continued. “Better than Ethan ever was. He deserves a real chance.
“You think I can make him fall in love with me?” I couldn’t keep the skepticism from my voice.
“I think you’d be surprised what might develop between you if you allow it.” She squeezed excess water from the cloth. “Don’t close yourself off because of what happened with Ethan.”
I sighed. “It’s not that simple.”
“Nothing worthwhile ever is.” Paige helped me into a clean gown. But you deserve happiness, Amber. Real happiness, not just revenge or status.”
Her words struck a chord. For years, I’d been the adored daughter of the Chase family. Then Victoria arrived, and everything changed. After the incident, I was sent abroad for five years, effectively exiled from my own pack.
“Dominic isn’t like Ethan,” Paige said softly. “He’s not impulsive or easily swayed. He knows what he wants.”

“And what does he want?” I asked.
“Stability. Security.” She gathered my hair and began gently brushing it. “The same things you need.”
I pondered her words. Maybe she was right.
“Ethan betrayed you because he resents you for saving Dominic,” Paige continued. “Think about it–if Dominic had died, Ethan might have inherited the Blackwood Pack. Plus, he’s deluded himself into thinking he loves Melissa because she worships him.”
“You think he’ll regret it?” I asked, unable to keep the bitterness from my voice.
“Eventually,” Paige nodded confidently. “When he realizes what he’s lost.”
The thought brought me less satisfaction than I expected. Perhaps was finally moving on.
“What matters now is your future,” Paige emphasized. “With Dominic.”
I closed my eyes, thinking about the path ahead. Marriage to Dominic Blackwood–the most powerful wolf in Silvercrest City. It was everything I’d schemed for, yet I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was venturing into unknown territory.
“Do you think I can make him happy?” I whispered.
Paige’s hands stilled in my hair. “I think you both deserve the chance to find out.”
Her faith in me was touching, if perhaps misplaced. I’d never been good at relationships–too proud, too passionate, too uncompromising. But maybe with Dominic, things could be different.
“There,” Paige said, finishing with my hair. “You look better already.”
I managed a small smile. “Thanks.”
“For what it’s worth,” she added, “I think you and Dominic make more sense together than you and Ethan ever did.”
Perhaps she was right. Ethan had been charming and exciting, but ultimately unreliable. Dominic offered something different- something solid and enduring.
“I hope so,” I said quietly. “I really hope so.”
