I looked at her, a confused look in my eyes, and I knew she could see it. It made her sigh and lower her gaze.
“There are spies everywhere,” she explained. “My mate uncovered a lot of secrets these last few days, and unfortunately, this hospital isn’t safe. Alpha Levi has planted a lot of spies around the Silver Crescent pack, most of whom are in this hospital.”
My heart stopped. I already knew Levi planted spies, but does she think these spies somehow got to me?
She paused for a moment, like she was trying to figure out if she should tell me a secret or not.
She eventually sighed, relenting to her own thoughts.
“You should know… we suspect foul play…” she told me gently.
I wanted to ask her, “Foul play?” But I couldn’t speak. I just stared at her, dumbfounded. The question must have been on my lips and in my eyes, because she answered it.
“I have reason to believe that those who aided you when you first got here weren’t looking out for your well–being. They should never have given you medication like this, knowing that you are pregnant. No safe meds would sedate you in such a way. Though I know you are conscious, you are in fact sedated, I’m hoping the drip that I give you next will clear up your system and make it so you can at least speak again. Some further testing will determine for sure what you were given.”
My eyes were wide… or at least I think they were. I couldn’t actually feel them to know for sure. But I was in a state of shock, and Iwasn’t sure I’d be able to talk even if I wanted to. So, that’s the reason my entire body had locked down and wouldn’t do as I was saying… it was because the doctors had sedated me…
“It’ll be okay, though,” Eliza assured me. “I’m here now, and I’ll do everything in my power to keep you and the baby safe.”
Without another word, she left the room.
I’m not sure how long she was gone for. I found myself relaxing, pleased that Eliza was there to care for me now. I trusted her more than anyone else in this hospital, and if there was someone who could help me… it was her.
I found myself drifting off with the thoughts of Gavin in my head; hope she would tell Gavin that I was doing okay and not to worry too much, because I knew he was worried. I could feel it through our mate bond.
I was woken by the sound of the door opening and shutting gently. My groggy eyes adjusted to the lighting, and I was relieved to see that Eliza had returned. I’m not sure how long I had been asleep for, but I was grateful that it was her and nobody else… though I did wish to see Gavin.
“I’m glad you were able to get some sleep. How are you feeling?” she asked as she walked to my bedside.
“Like I’ve been run over by a truck,” I murmured, realizing that I was feeling slightly hungover. I was shocked that I was able to speak, though, despite the fact that my voice sounded unfamiliar and raspy.
She handed me a water bottle that I hadn’t noticed she was holding. Thankfully, it was sealed, so I knew for a fact that it was safe. I chugged half the bottle without a second thought.
“Yeah, the drugs will do that to you,” she said, shaking her head. “They gave you Moonshade. I did some testing, and it’s all over your blood work. It’s a miracle your baby survived it. It must be the Lycan blood.”
My heart dropped into my stomach.
“Moonshade?” I asked. “What is that?”
“A powerful drug used for sedation… and compliance. It’ll make you compliant with just about anything. It’s often paired with an aphrodisiac. A large amount of that drug could be used for abortions…and they gave you a very large amount. You are lucky that you both survived. Someone is certainly looking out for you.”
