Chapter 18
Lea’s tears finally dried up. Her arms hung uselessly at her sides as she stared at Damon, completely lost.
She just didn’t get it–how could he turn on her so fast?
Before, all it took was a single tear and he’d be the first one trying to make things right. Now, when she looked up at him, all she saw was cold indifference.
It was like she could cry a river and he still wouldn’t care.
Lea didn’t dare confess she’d provoked Emily, or that she’d set her up on purpose. She pressed her lips together, desperate, and looked at Damon with pleading eyes.
“Damon, I swear I didn’t do anything. Can’t you believe me? Emily’s always been so kind, and you two have helped me so much. I’m grateful for everything–I would never do anything to hurt her!”
“Sure, she’s never really liked me. And maybe this time her silent treatment has gone on a little too long, but Damon, you can’t just blame me because she left.”
She forced out a few more tears, hoping to tug at his heartstrings.
Damon had always been soft when it came to her. All she could do now was hope he’d let this go. Maybe he hadn’t heard everything. Even if he had, she could just say it was her friends talking, and she was only trying to smooth things over.
If he didn’t dig too deep, she could still tell him she was pregnant with his child. With time and their history, she was sure she could win him back.
But the man in front of her wasn’t the Damon she remembered. Instead of soft sympathy, he let out a cold, mocking laugh, his lips curling into a sneer.
“You really don’t know when to stop, do you? After all these years, don’t you know what kind of
erthroat.
nce isn’t limitless.”
ke, he slammed her head down onto the table and wrapped his hand tightly around
“If that’s how you want to play it, maybe I should just tell your family everything. I’m sure they’d love to drag you back home.”
The threat in his words scared her even more than the pain.
All she could picture was her father’s cruel face–how he’d threatened to marry her off to that disgusting old man.
Panic rushed through Lea, making her feel like she was about to lose her mind.

“No! Please, don’t tell them! I’ll talk, Damon, I’ll tell you everything, just please don’t!”
Only then did Damon release her.
“Talk.”
She gasped for air, coughing so hard she could barely get her words out. “You… you can check my phone!”
Her hands shook as she unlocked it and pushed it towards him. “I haven’t done anything, I promise. This is all just a misunderstanding.”
Deep down, she was relieved–she’d already deleted every message where she’d gone after Emily.
But Damon barely glanced at her phone before his eyes narrowed. He knew she wasn’t done pretending.
He snatched the phone away and called his tech guy, ready to have every deleted message recovered and exposed.
The moment Lea realized what he was doing, her world came crashing down.
She grabbed Damon’s arm, pleading, tears streaming down her face. “Please, Damon, please–just this once, believe me. Don’t send it off for recovery, I’m begging you-”
But this time, Damon was done giving her chances.
He’d given her more than enough, and she’d thrown every one away.
Watching her collapse in a heap on the floor, Damon spoke quietly to his assistant, telling him to find out exactly what Lea had done to Emily.
