The confirmation hit like a fresh wound. Lorraine’s vision swam. “So our marriage… It was just a cover this whole time?”

Her chest ached with each heartbeat. Fat tears rolled down her face, landing on his forearm–cold droplets that somehow seared ke hot oil against his skin.
Eugene frowned slightly. “If you’ve got more questions, you’d better stop crying I don’t have the patience for a crybaby”
“Wh–what? Who are you calling a crybaby?” she protested, wiping her nose.
“Whoever’s crying is the crybaby,” he said, his voice icy.
Lorraine opened her mouth to snap back, but then she felt warmth beneath her eyelids.
Before she could react, a rough fingertip brushed against her skin. The heat lingered, sending an odd shiver straight to her heart.

Lorraine suddenly realized what she’d just let slip. The memory of that night–the shameful trickle down her thighs after–washed over her.
