Chapter 6
Eugene’s assistant and driver held their breath as they watched him,
Eugene didn’t seem angry or impatient. He just stood completely still, staring at Lorraine with unshakable intensity
Snow began falling again, settling on their shoulders.
Isaac quietly got an umbrella from the car and held it over Eugene. When the driver tried to offer one to Lorraine, Eugena stopped him with a raised hand.
“Go home.” Eugene’s voice cut through the cold air. “I won’t repeat myself”
Lorraine’s pulse hammered, yet somehow she found the strength to lift her chin. “I’m not going back she shouted. “I don’t have a home! And you’ll only hear this oncel”
Isaac and the driver exchanged shocked glances. No one ever talked to Eugene like that. They stood frozen, holding their breath, waiting for the Inevitable explosion of anger.
But what happened next stunned them even more. Eugene didn’t even som upset. He simply shrugged, his voice eerily calm. “Not going home? Fine. Soon you’ll find that no bus, taxi, or subway will take you anywhere: Enjoy freezing out here.”
Lorraine’s mind raced. Suddenly, it all clicked. “It was you, wasn’t it?!” she burst out. “You told them not to let me on?!”
Eugene just stared at her, his face expressionless, not showing a hint of guilt
Fury surged through Lorraine. She scrambled to her feet and marched away, Her frozen toes protested with every step, but she didn’t care.
‘If he thinks he can control every damn bus and taxi in this city, I’ll walk, Screw him. He doesn’t own me, she thought, seething.
She hurried across the street, but before she could take another step, strong arms locked around her waist.
Eugene had closed the distance in seconds. Without ceremony, he hoisted her over his shoulder like she weighed nothing
“Let me go, you bastard!” She writhed against his grip, but his hands held like iron.
Isaac and the driver stood ready, the car door already open as Eugene forced Lorraine into the backseat.
Lorraine scrambled to
ed to rise, fingers clawing at the leather seats, but he pushed her down before she could escape.
“You bastard!” she spat, slamming her foot against the door. The heavy thud barely shook the solid luxury
Eugene loomed in the doorway, his face unreadable. He observed her frantic movements with cold detachment.
She glared at him, locking eyes in a fierce stare–down. Their eyes seemed to clash like sparks.
His cold stare pinned her down like a predator cornering its prey. She could almost feel the walls closing in around her.
Lorraine’s throat went dry under Eugene’s piercing stare. She swallowed hard, fingers clutching the leather seat until her knuckles whitened. Their eyes locked in a battle of wills–she wasn’t going to be the first to look away.
Eugene loosened his tie and settled into the seat beside her.
The scent of his cologne flooded the confined space, sending Lorraine’s pulse racing. Her body instinctively recoiled–only to freeze mid–motion as sho realized the locked doors and tinted windows lett no exit.
She tore her gaze away, forcing slow, steady breaths through clenched teeth. Her hands clenched into determined fists–she was prepared to defend herself if necessary.
