Chapter 5
Coral couldn’t contain herself either and deliberately added fuel to the fire.
“Everyone, please stop talking like that. Can’t you see our Miss Reed is about to cry? If she dries up her tears now, whichever lucky gentleman wins her tonight won’t have any wetness left to enjoy.”
Her innuendo was vicious to the extreme.
Yet Ryan absolutely loved it.
“My sweet Coral is so adorable. Even after suffering such a betrayal, you remain so optimistic and cheerful. You’re endlessly fascinating.”
The people around them heard this and laughed in agreement.
“Exactly! Miss Baker seems to have much more of the Morgan wife quality. As for Miss Reed, she’s better left for our enjoyment.”
“I heard Mr. Morgan and Miss Baker were college classmates–first loves, even. Mrs. Morgan never discovered it all these years. What an idiot. I definitely won’t be bidding on her brain.”
I felt like needles were stabbing into my back, every hair on my body standing on end.
My heart ached as if it had stopped beating, being torn apart piece by piece.
Finally, unable to endure it anymore, I turned to look at Coral through a veil of unshed tears.
“You’re just a homewrecker. What right do you have to talk about me? Your confidence today only exists because you’re clinging to a man. Once he throws you away, your fate will be even worse than
mine.”
Ryan, who had been perfectly composed until now, immediately flew into a rage.
He grabbed my arm and twisted me around roughly.
“Claire Reed, I’m warning you–stop causing trouble for Coral, or I won’t hesitate to make things
even worse for you!”
I let out a bitter laugh.

Chapter 3
I knew this was no empty threat.
Simply because I had prevented Coral from winning a bid and embarrassed her, he had orchestrated this vicious, cruel setup for revenge.
What else could possibly happen to me now?
But at this point, I no longer cared what else I might endure, because from this moment on, Ryan Morgan was dead to me.
The beautiful memories of the past collided with the present betrayal–even those beautiful moments had been fake. All of it fueled my determination to persevere.
How much worse could it get?
I forcefully broke free from Ryan’s grip and turned back to the verification officer.
“What are you standing there for? Is verifying funds really that complicated?!”
The officer started, frowning as he quickly operated the device.
The sound of the verification machine was faint, but because everyone was holding their breath, it
seemed particularly jarring.
Every face in the room showed barely concealed excitement as they rubbed their hands together, collectively anticipating the laughable outcome.
But in the next moment, the verification officer’s expression changed.
is previously contemptuous look gradually became solemn. He stared blankly, checking and rechecking several times.
Ryan impatiently furrowed his brow and urged the officer.
“What’s wrong? Is there a problem?”
I chuckled softly, my downcast eyes gradually filling with burning anger.
All that anger transformed into a mocking retort:
“What’s the result, Miss Verification Officer?”
