The others shrugged, none dared to speak.
How could they explain? Tell the only person who might still get through to Kevin that he’d lost control like this over another woman?
Luckily, Emily didn’t press further. Seeing him in such a drunken state, worry outweighed everything else. She stepped closer and gently woke the unconscious Kevin.
“Kevin, Kevin? How are you feeling?”
A woman’s voice reached his ears. He blinked open bleary eyes but couldn’t make out the speaker’s face, only sensing a strangely familiar presence.
So when she leaned in, Kevin didn’t resist, letting her help him up.
“He’s had way too much to drink. I’ll take him home first!” Emily readily took responsibility for getting him home. Larry and the others quickly nodded, relieved to pass off this hot potato.
Watching the two figures leave the private room, one named Sean spoke up, “What do you think Kevin really means by this?”
Larry shook his head and sighed deeply, “Who knows.”
If Kevin’s sweetheart is Emily, he couldn’t choose before because he felt indebted to her for nursing him through paralysis. Now that Jennifer’s gone, he should be thrilled.
But if his heart belongs to Jennifer, why’d he claim he only saw her as a sister while constantly siding with Emily?
Kevin couldn’t understand his own thoughts, and neither could anyone else.
Kevin woke up the next day.
Harsh sunlight streamed through the open window onto him as a hangover headache pounded through his skull. Frowning, he rubbed his temples and instinctively glanced toward the nightstand—there sat a bowl of Electrolyte Drink.
Some thought sparked in his mind, sending a jolt of excitement through him. He threw off the covers and rushed out of the room, heading straight for the kitchen.
The clinking of porcelain grew louder as he pushed the door open. A name escaped his lips: “Jennifer?!”
The figure froze momentarily before smoothly regaining her composure. She turned, feigning ignorance. “Kevin? You’re awake. Did you drink the Electrolyte Drink I left? Well… never mind, that bowl’s probably cold now. I’ll get

you a fresh one.”
Then she turned around and scooped another bowl of Electrolyte Drink,
handing it over with a smile.
Kevin glanced at it, fell silent for a moment before accepting it.
“How is it?” Emily asked, eyes hopeful as he took the bowl.
The large bowl of Electrolyte Drink soothed his throbbing headache slightly,
yet its taste felt oddly unfamiliar-
different from the one Jennifer used to make whenever he drank too much.
At the thought of her name, he fell silent again.
Finally, he nodded. “Pretty good.”
Silence hung between them once more.
Just as Emily opened her mouth to speak, he abruptly asked,
“Your parents should be back home by now?”
The question caught her off guard.
She nodded before processing his words.
“They returned three days ago.”
The very next second, she heard him say, “I only let you move in because you said your family wasn’t home. Now that your parents are back, you should move out today. I’ll have someone drive you back later.”
After speaking, he turned and walked away without glancing at her reaction.
“Kevin!”
Unfortunately, Emily had no intention of letting him leave. Seeing he wouldn’t even turn around, she stepped forward and grabbed his hand. “Kevin, what do you mean? Are you kicking me out?”
Panic flashed across her face as she instinctively tightened her grip. Feeling the pressure on his wrist, Kevin frowned almost imperceptibly.
He pulled his hand free, impatience edging his voice. “You never should’ve come here in the first place.”
The words were so cruel and cold that when they landed, both froze in stunned silence.
Kevin saw Emily’s eyes redden in an instant,
“I…I’m sorry, no need to see me out. I’m leaving now!”
