Two days later, Jennifer’s birthday arrived.
Kevin cleared his entire schedule, but only when ordering the cake did he realize how little he knew about her.
He didn’t even know her favorite flavor, so he bought every single variety available.
This would be his first proper birthday celebration with Jennifer.
After all, before his paralysis, this golden boy never noticed birthdays of scholarship students his family sponsored. When she came to care for him later, his paralysis twisted his personality – consumed by the shame of being seen vul- nerable, he’d constantly take it out on her.
Later on, Kevin gradually improved under her care and encouragement. He finally learned to retract his thorns and treat those around him with gentleness.
It’s just a shame that Jennifer wasn’t among them at that time.
He still couldn’t shake the discomfort of her seeing his vulnerable state so clearly and completely, maintaining sur- face-level peace only out of gratitude.
By the time he realized his true feelings, Jennifer had long since packed her bags and quietly slipped away.
But he consoled himself-it didn’t matter. Even if he didn’t know her well enough now, they still had a future. Little by little, he’d weave all her habits and passions into the fabric of his own life.
Kevin proudly spread all the gifts before her the moment they got home,
“Jennifer, see if anything catches your eye. If not, I’ll have someone fetch more.”
Before Kevin’s return, Jennifer had braced herself for two scenarios-
whether his affection was feigned, making him forget her birthday,
or genuine, leading to some grand celebration.
Yet seeing cakes and presents spread across the entire living room,
she still froze in disbelief. “Why so many?”
Kevin’s expression froze. He opened his mouth as if struggling for words,
stammered a few syllables before changing the subject.

Kevin’s demeanor quickly gave Jennifer the picture.

During their limited time together, his gaze had lingered on her paralyzed legs, on Emily who’d once abandoned him -leaving precious little attention for her.
So little that now, when he tried to win her over, he probably didn’t even know her preferences.
She lowered her head with a soft chuckle, feeling sudden relief that Kevin wasn’t the one she’d chosen.
Seeing her smile, Kevin mistook it for approval of his preparations and grinned back.
Without comment, Jennifer randomly picked one gift from the pile. “This one will do.”
Her choice was an amethyst bracelet-unassuming among the presents yet bearing considerable, worth.
She held the soft lilac crystal in her palm, its glow making her skin appear even fairer. Staring blankly at the bracelet, her gaze drifted to the certificate inside the box.
This bracelet was worth nearly ten million, yet it ranked among the cheaper gifts in this pile.
For some reason, it suddenly occurred to her-back when she first arrived in Country A, her savings had been pitiful- ly small. Barely enough for a few meals, let alone proper housing.
Strapped for cash, she’d juggled odd jobs while scrambling for future prospects.
Had she owned such a bracelet then, even selling it at discount would’ve bought months of security. Maybe… just maybe… she wouldn’t have had to crash in a random place and nearly get tangled in that murder case?
“Jennifer, happy birthday.”
Kevin’s voice brought her back to the present. She forced a smile, lowered her gaze to mask her emotions, and mur- mured, “Thank you.”
Just as her thoughts wandered, a slice of cake appeared before her. She looked up to see Kevin’s smiling face.
Luck had favored her-or perhaps hitting rock bottom meant the only way was up. During her darkest days, she’d met the person who’d change her life.
