Chapter 6
Ethan’s hand trembled slightly as he drove. He kept calling me over and over again, but his calls didn’t go through.
He stared at the screen, his throat tightened.
I was probably still angry and just needed some time–that was what he kept telling
himself.
As long as he came home and apologized, everything could be salvaged.

I’d always been gentle and never argued with him. I’d treated him with such kindness, without boundaries. That was exactly why he pushed my limits again and again.
No, that was not how it really was.
His grip on the steering wheel tightened all of a sudden. A sharp pain seized his chest, nearly making him black out.
He’d always been a flirt, and his sweet talk had won over more than a few women. However, I was the only one he ever truly cared about, from beginning to end.
I was the reason he wanted to settle down when he was still wild and restless.
However, he had screwed it up. It wasn’t a single mistake–it was how he slowly pushed me
away, step by step.
He didn’t hurt me with words or violence. Instead, he masked his true feelings with jokes and replaced commitment with avoidance. All these years, he’d been hurting me.
By the time Ethan realized what he’d done, cold sweat had already soaked through his back
He always liked to say he was a “romantic Alpha who knew his boundaries“. But looking back, he was nothing more than a coward.
Now standing in front of the door, Ethan had his hand on the knob, but he couldn’t bring

himself to open it.

He didn’t know how to face me or Theo, and he didn’t even know how to explain years of terrible behavior.
Only when the toy in his hand was nearly crushed out of shape did he finally summon the courage to step inside.
But what welcomed him was not two familiar figures–it was just darkness and suffocating silence.
Ethan’s expression froze. He flicked on the lights and searched through every room. But the apartment was barely 900 square feet, and there wasn’t much to search for.
He couldn’t believe that I had really left.

In that moment, it felt like something had drained the strength from his entire body. He slumped onto the couch, defeated.
The Breaking Mate Bond Agreement lay quietly on the table, like a sentence waiting to be handed down.
Suddenly, his phone buzzed. He picked up immediately.
“Alpha Ethan, thank you for the gift you bought for Liam. As a thank–you, he’d like to invite you to dinner tomorrow.”
It was Mira’s voice, not mine. The smile on Ethan’s face froze.
“I’m not coming.” His voice was colder than ever.
Mira’s soft sobbing came after a short pause on the other end. “Alpha Ethan, did I make things difficult for you?”
Her cry was delicate and sounded extremely sad.
In the past, Ethan might’ve comforted her without thinking. Now, he just felt annoyed.

These past few days, he’d spent time with Mira and Liam. However, his mind was always
elsewhere.
When he gave Mira that necklace, he thought of my bare neck. When he gifted Liam that luxury toy, all he saw was Theo’s longing gaze at the store window.
But he hadn’t dared to give Theo anything. He’d kept up the lie for too long that he barely dared to come clean anymore.
