Chapter 6
Madison and Joseph stepped out of the house. When Joseph’s gaze landed on me, visibly panicked.

I raised my voice and yelled, “Madison! Where is your university acceptance letter?”
After noticing that there were police officers with me, Madison began to realize that something was amiss. “My acceptance letter? I haven’t received it yet.”
“That’s impossible,” I declared while glaring at her.

The female officer patted my back to comfort me. “Don’t worry, Lucy. We’ll get to the bottom of this.”
Frank stood up to his full height. “Lucy, you must have evidence if you suspect me of stealing your university spot.”
I rubbed the tears from my eyes and said, “The acceptance letter is the evidence.”
After all, the acceptance letter would have my ID number on it. I had traveled back 20 years.
The student information website didn’t exist yet. If it did, Frank wouldn’t have been able to
exchange my information for Madison’s on the application form.
Madison’s complexion turned pallid as she unconsciously glanced at Joseph. However, Joseph had his head lowered and remained mute.
The female officer stepped into the house. “Ms. Bass, can you please show us your acceptance letter?”
Madison was visibly flustered. “You don’t have the right to look at my acceptance letter.”
The officer smiled before she produced a warrant, which shocked Madison to the point of tears. “D–Dad, what should I do?” she stammered.
Frank closed his eyes.

Joseph was bewildered when he heard Madison call Frank “Dad“.
“What did you just call him?” he demanded.

Madison clamped her mouth shut and shook her head vigorously. Tears continued to roll down her cheeks silently.
I studied Madison before directing my gaze to Frank. They did share some similar features, which led me to the conclusion that they were related by blood. “Mr. Gunther, is Madison your daughter?” I asked.
The words had just left my mouth when Joseph cut in, his voice tinged with confusion. “Dad, Madison is your daughter?” His stare turned fierce as he exclaimed, “Dad! How could you do this to me? How could you do this to Mom?”
“You actually cheated on Mrs. Gunther,” I added, surprised.
Frank took in a deep breath. He wore a defeated expression, but he didn’t explain himself.
Meanwhile, Madison was still crying. She tried to grab Joseph’s hand, but he batted her away ruthlessly. She fell to the floor, her sobs intensifying.
“Get lost! You disgust me!”
I never thought that there would be a day when Joseph would consider Madison disgusting. In my past life, joy would bloom on Joseph’s face whenever Madison was brought up in conversation. If I got jealous, he would comfort me by saying he had feelings for her once, but it was all in the past.
He would even celebrate Madison’s birthday with her at times. We had argued about it once. He had told me that Madison was like a daughter to Frank, so he had only attended her birthday party because they were like a family.
But whenever I asked him to bring me along, he would come up with all sorts of excuses to deny me. He didn’t want me to interact with her.
I had a sudden realization. If Madison had used my identity, it also meant that she had used

my name.
Why was Joseph unhappy now that the truth had come out that Madison was Frank’s biological daughter?
“Get lost! All of you sicken me!” Joseph shouted hysterically.

Madison got back onto her feet. She was still crying as she reached out to Joseph. “Joseph, I
Joseph scoffed, his eyes reddened. “Everything makes sense now. No wonder you rejected me when I confessed to you. It’s because you’re my father’s illegitimate daughter!”

I leaned against the door, enjoying myself as I watched the chaos unfold. The female officer
took Madison, Frank, and Joseph back to the police station with her. Now that an investigation had started, more and more truths came to light.
It turned out that Frank was a serial offender. My case ended up being insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
