Chapter 9
“Is that clear enough? Real enough for you?” I asked the stunned crowd.
The room erupted in chaos again.
“So all these receipts are sure for things Kyra bought for Rylan? And he sold everything?!” someone exclaimed in disbelief.
“I’m shocked,” a girl from my class said. “Isn’t Kyra from a regular family? How does she have this kind of money? And wasn’t Rylan supposed to be the victim here? How did he become the one living off others?!”
With a cold laugh, I explained, “My family is ordinary, but I earn money myself. While you were all studying and partying, I was juggling three part–time jobs, running around constantly.”
The truth was that Rylan never had much earning potential, but I never expected him to support me. I even felt sorry for him, thinking that his willingness to put his money in my care was a sign of his trust in me.
Just last week, the money he had saved was still sitting untouched in our joint account. Since the beginning of the semester, he had barely spent anything on me, always with the perfect excuse: “All my money is with you–what more do you want from me?”
But I never imagined his true intentions.
All he had done wasn’t giving me security and showing me our future. He was emotionally manipulating me, knowing that if we broke up, he would demand all that money back. How is that fair?
Suddenly regaining his composure, Rylan quickly threw his phone away. “No! That’s not my phone! I didn’t do it! I never resold your gifts!”
Yet my face remained as cold as ice while I delivered the final blow. “If it were just about reselling gifts, I might only call you greedy. But Rylan, do you dare reveal your true relationship with her?” I pointed at his supposed sister.
With my words, the room suddenly fell into complete silence as someone whispered, “What does she mean? There’s another twist? Isn’t she Rylan’s sister? What other relationship could they have?”
Under the confused gazes of everyone, I pulled out another stack of documents from my bag. “You’re not Rylan’s sister at all. Your name is Lin Yue. You two have been dating since high school. Later, Rylan got into university while you didn’t, but you wanted to be with him, so you followed him to this city.”
Staring directly at the girl, I continued, “Rylan’s family couldn’t afford his education, so you’ve been working every day to support him all these years. What kind of spell did he cast on you to make you willingly play the role of his sister without any official status?”
Turning back to Rylan with contempt, I added, “You’re quite the operator, aren’t you? Keeping one girl outside school as your maid and money–maker, while having another as your personal ATM inside school. Who’s really living off others? Who’s the gold–digger? Who’s the materialistic one? Isn’t it obvious now?”
Everyone in the room was completely stunned by my revelation.
“So when Rylan had the accident, his parents didn’t come because they live too far away?” someone asked, trying to make sense of it all.
Another person concluded, “His parents don’t support/him, so he makes this girl earn money for him instead?”
Opening my eyes wide, I addressed Rylan directly, “You kept telling me we’d be together after graduation. You promised me a grand wedding. You claimed all that saved money was for our future.”
“What I didn’t know was that you were already legally married. You two got your marriage certificate last year! Rylan, your relationship with me was entirely about my money. Your emotional manipulation, sacrificing small amounts to gain much more–you played it masterfully.”
“No, that’s not true!!” Rylan threw his head back, his voice piercing.
“Yes, I’m married, but I wanted to marry you too… I never expected you to treat me this way just because I had an accident, which is why I suggested breaking up. I loved you!”
