Honestly, if it weren’t for that strange twist of fate where I ended up choosing Dusty, I probably would’ve ended up just like before.
Kaelen, who probably sensed my mind drifting, looked over and said, “Don’t worry. I’ll go with you to the Roffes tomorrow.”
When we got there, the huge estate was completely empty–only Justin and Maisie were left.
It looked like I wasn’t the only one abandoned in this lifetime.
Maisie was lying in bed, looking restless. Her eyes had been gouged out.
Seeing her in such a pitiful state, I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Who’s there? Who are you?”

“What, after a trip to the Beast Den, you can’t even recognize your own sister’s voice?”
Maisie began trembling all over, and she tried to crawl out of bed.
The moment I spoke,
That was when Justin walked in.
He used to be so full of himself. Now, he only had one arm left. He rushed forward and picked Maisie off the ground with his one remaining arm, holding her and whispering comforts. Then he looked up at me.
“What more do you
nt from us?”
Even now, he was still trying to protect Maisie.
I closed my eyes, forcing down the storm of emotions rising inside me.
When I opened them again, all that remained was indifference.
“Actually, I don’t feel like killing you anymore. Death would be too easy. I want you both to live like this–forever miserable, pathetic, and beneath me.
That thought made me feel so much better. I reached for Kaelen’s hand and walked away.
Not long after, Kaelen told me Justin was dead.
My hand paused mid–motion when I heard the news, but deep down, I didn’t feel a thing.
Apparently, Maisie had gotten her hands on some secret technique and had tried to restore her sight by cutting out Justin’s eyes while he was still alive.
But when Justin found out she planned to come after me, he trapped her, set everything on fire, and took her down with him.
Lately, Kaelen had been acting really strange. He had suddenly gone all monk–like and barely even looked at me anymore. He would even run off when he saw me coming.
I started to suspect he might be seeing someone else behind my
back.
So one night, I pinned him on the bed.
“Wh-what are you doing?”

Snorting, I grabbed his chin and tilted his face up, staring straight into those gorgeous, unfairly perfect features.
