Chapter 6
I saw Sophia in the obstetrics and gynecology department of the hospital.
She was lying on the hospital bed, surrounded by several doctors with serious expressions.
I hid outside the door and heard their conversation.
“It’s so weird. I’m only six weeks pregnant, but the size of the gestational sac looks like it’s sixteen weeks. And the HCG level is ridiculously high. It doesn’t conform to the rules of a normal pregnancy at all.”
“Yes, and the B-ultrasound shows that it seems… it seems that there is more than one gestational sac.”
“More than one? Could it be multiple babies?”
“No, it’s not as simple as multiple births… It feels like… It feels like…” A young doctor hesitated and said an incredible word, “Like… a litter.”
The whole office fell into silence in an instant.
I leaned against the cold wall, my heart pounding.
In my previous life, these words were spoken to me by a doctor.
I had twenty miscarriages, and each time, it was like a bunch of shapeless flesh and blood tissue was expelled.
It turned out that it was not just one pregnancy after another, but a nest of “evil seeds” planted in my uterus from the very beginning.
And that “Blood Knot Charm” is the medium that allows these evil seeds to grow in my body.
Now, I have had a sterilization, and the medium has lost its function. All the bad consequences have come back to Sophia herself.
“No! Impossible! You are all quacks!”
Sophia’s hysterical screams were heard in the ward.
“I’m obviously pregnant with Richard’s child! He’s the precious heir! How can it be a duplicate?”
“Even if the child is not Richard’s, I can get a bonus as long as it is born. You are talking
nonsense!”
She tried to climb down from the bed like crazy, but was held down by two nurses.
“Ms. Carter, calm down! Your condition is very dangerous. The fetus is developing abnormally and may bleed profusely at any time!”
“I don’t want to hear it! Get out of here! I’m going to find Richard! He’ll believe me!” Sophia was incredibly strong, and several nurses could hardly hold her down.
The door of the ward was pushed open, and a man in a suit and tie walked in, followed by
two bodyguards.
Richard’s special assistant.
He glanced at Sophia lying on the bed, with an expression as if he was looking at something dirty.
“Ms. Carter, Richard asked me to tell you that he will no longer be involved in your affairs.” The man threw a bank card on the bedside table. “Here is $200,000 as compensation. From now on, you will have nothing to do with Richard or the Kingsley family.”
Sophia stopped crying and looked at the man in disbelief.
“Two hundred thousand dollars? You want to get rid of me with two hundred thousand dollars?”
The special assistant gave a formulaic smile and pulled out a document from his briefcase.
“Ms. Carter, before we came here, we had already done an expedited test using your blood sample and Richard’s DNA. The results showed that the fetus in your belly has no blood relationship with Richard.”
“You know the bonus rules. Whoever owns the child pays the bonus.”
Sophia thought she could become a rich man after getting off the cruise, but who knew Richard was a mama’s boy.
Besides, the child was not Richard’s at all, so naturally he would ignore her.
There was more than one man participating in the competition on the cruise ship.
“No, the rules of the competition are that you have to wait until I give birth to the baby. It’s against the rules to selfishly do a blood test. I want to see Richard!”
“No need for that. Richard has withdrawn from the competition. He has never been on a cruise ship. I hope Ms. Carter will be careful with her words, otherwise she will bear the consequences!”
The special assistant didn’t even look at her again and left with his bodyguards.
I leaned against the wall outside the door, listening to the suppressed, intermittent sobs that were heard from inside.
