Our marriage was just based on a contract anyway. I didn’t even care who Gideon married.
Their wedding buzzed online.
Riding the tide, Vesper started a vlog to share their preparations.
When Maren showed it to me, I set down my papers. “Are you so idle now?”
She snickered, “Just sharing the gossip.”
I glanced at her phone and quickly looked away. She added, “Gideon does spoil her.”
I said nothing.
Before leaving, Maren suddenly asked, “You divorced him yet?”
I paused. “The lawyer says Gideon doesn’t agree. I don’t know what’s up, but I’ll deal with
it later.”
“Maybe he can’t let you go,” Maren teased, running off.
I chewed over her words but soon dismissed them.
Gideon was a selfish businessman. I made his life easy, so he’d pay to keep me. My refusal hurt his pride, and marrying Vesper was his way to lure me back.
Too bad for him, I wasn’t the old Selene anymore. Now I didn’t even care about these
things.
A week later, I finally wrapped up my work.
Checking my phone, I saw Gideon and Vesper’s wedding streamed live.
Curious, I tapped on the channel to watch.

Vesper beamed in a white gown, but Gideon didn’t look so thrilled. He kept scanning the crowd, as if expecting someone.
His face was cloudy when the ceremony began. Vesper nudged him, and he finally snapped
back.
As the officiant spoke, Gideon scanned the room once again and suddenly grabbed the mic.
“The wedding is off. Enjoy your free meal,” he declared, walking out.
Vesper chased after him. “What is going on? Where are you going?”
He was irritated. “I don’t feel like marrying you anymore.”
She pressed, “Why?”
His voice was ice. “You’re just a stand–in. You look nothing like her.”
Vesper gasped, “What do you mean by that?”
He ignored her pain. “You were always a stand–in.”

As she protested, he ordered his bodyguard to stop her and walked off alone.
When my phone rang with Gideon’s number, I rejected it without a second thought.
When he tried again, I frowned and simply blocked him.
The dissolution of their marriage became a scandal online, and people called him a
heartless jerk.
