Chapter 7
He hated himself for saying those awful things out loud, and he hated me for not giving in like I used to.
However, what he hated most was how he slapped me.
Luca’s head was pounding. He reached out, trying to pull me into his
arms.
“Gen, I’m sorry, please, forgive me. I didn’t know you were pregnant…”
He stroked my back gently, just like when I was a kid, hoping I would melt just like I used to.
I only let out a small laugh and pushed him away.
I could not hate him completely. After all, he did give me a home when no one else did.
Yet, at the same time, I could not just throw myself at him anymore. That would make me feel worthless.
Old memories flashed through my head, but I blinked back the tears and looked him straight in the eyes. “So if I weren’t pregnant, I would deserve that slap, huh? Luca, did you ever really believe me?
“Do you even know why I smashed her phone?”
Luca lowered his head, obviously wanting to drop this topic.
However, I refused to let it slide this time. I wanted to rip the truth out once and for all.

“Do you know Cecelia had a ton of my photos on her phone?”
“No, she wouldn’t…”
Before he could finish, I snapped, “The password is her birthday! She’s sent those photos to me so many times! Why don’t you believe me?”
Luca rubbed his temples like he could not stand this conversation.
“She doesn’t seem like someone who’d do that. Don’t you worry, I’ll check when I get back. If she really…”
My chest tightened while my ears were ringing. I did not want to hear another word of his excuses.
Right then, my phone buzzed like crazy.
My roommate was blowing up my messages.
“Genevieve, is this photo really you? Someone just posted it all over the school forum.”
I swiped through the photos, and all the blood in my body seemed to drain out of my body.
The picture was so explicit that it made my stomach turn.
Even though my face was blurred, anyone who really knew me would recognize me in a second.
A wave of pure disgust rose up my throat. I covered my mouth, stumbled off the bed, and half-crawled toward the bathroom.
Luca froze for a second and picked up my phone from the floor.
When he saw the photo, his face turned paper white.

These were pictures he had taken himself. However, he had already deleted them all, so how the hell did they leak out?
The veins on his hand bulged as he gripped the phone. He quickly rushed over to steady me, trying to help me up.
I stood there like a statue and then slapped him across the face.
His head snapped to the side, but he slowly turned back to look at me.
One word at a time, he said, “Wait. I’ll make this right.”
Then, he turned and stormed out.
Luca drove straight to Cecelia’s place.
When she opened the door and saw him, her eyes lit up instantly.
She thought he had come running because she was special.
Before she could say a word, Luca grabbed her phone right out of her hand.
When Cecelia realized what he was doing, alarm bells started ringing in her head.
She lunged at him, trying to snatch it back. “Give it back, Luca!”
Luca ignored her and flipped through her phone quickly.
When he switched to an alternative account, the photo was right there.
Cecelia yanked the phone back, her eyes wide with fear.
“Luca, please, let me explain…
Luca turned his face away like he could not even stand to look at her. His

voice was low and hoarse as he whispered, “Explain what? What’s left to explain?”
Right now, he was drowning in so much regret that he even felt like ending himself.
All this chaos started because he crossed the line just once.
Genevieve had warned him over and over, but instead of trusting her, he
even
chose to protect Cecelia time.
