Chapter 102
Dillan was taken aback by Sylvia’s icy expression and paused by the flower bed. “Sylvia, what’s wrong? Why do you look upset?”
“That’s what I should be asking you. What are you doing here?” Sylvia asked coldly.
They hadn’t seen each other since that chance encounter last year when Sylvia returned to visit her grandfather’s grave.
Dillan gazed at Sylvia, his eyes betraying an affection he couldn’t conceal.
Dillan thought to himself, ‘Sylvia now radiates an elegant poise and a mesmerizing beauty. And just thinking about her vast business empire makes my pulse quicken with excitement.‘
“Sylvia, you and Byron are already divorced. Why are you still here? Did he force you to come?” asked Dillan.
Dillan’s expression suddenly darkened. With a commanding presence, he thrust one hand into his pocket, deliberately flashing his luxury black wristwatch. “Sylvia, don’t be afraid. Nobody can hurt you while I’m around.”
Sylvia looked at Dillan standing before her. She used to think he was decent. Back in the village days, they often chatted. But now, she suddenly found him annoying and frowned.
Sylvia said, “Dillan, you’re way too nosy. This is between me and Byron. It’s none of your business!”
Dillan froze for a moment, his displeasure clear. “Sylvia, I’m just worried about you. Are you really saying our relationship means less to you than what you had with Byron?”
At that moment, in the shade of a nearby tree, Byron’s silhouette almost blended into the shadows. His face was stern, and a muscle flickered at the corner of his eye.
Byron thought angrily, ‘You still dare say there’s nothing between you two?
‘Sylvia, how long do you intend to keep deceiving me?‘
Suddenly, a dark fury erupted within Byron.
As if sensing something, Sylvia instinctively glanced toward the shaded area and frowned.
She immediately spotted Byron and caught the displeasure on his face.
Sylvia thought, ‘Seriously? Now he’s the one getting upset?
‘I came all this way out of kindness to see him, and he has the nerve to give me attitude?
“Who needs your concern?” Sylvia turned to look at Dillan. “What are we, really? We just happened to grow up in the same village. And don’t you dare compare yourself to Byron. Even though we’re divorced now, he’s still my son’s father!”
Sylvia didn’t say those words for Byron’s benefit. She just wanted to keep those meddlers from stirring up trouble between
She knew exactly why Dillan was here.
It must have been Joanna who tipped him off.
Dillan looked stunned. “Sylvia, those words cut me deep. I know you still have feelings for me. Don’t you care that saying this might actually make me
mad?”
Sylvia’s expression was deadly serious. “Dillan, have you misunderstood something? The only reason I helped you was out of pity. Let’s be clear. We’re barely more than strangers.”

Dillan thought, ‘Out of pity?‘
He looked stunned and then suddenly agitated. He grabbed Sylvia’s shoulders and blurted, “Sylvia, what are you talking about? Have you forgotten everything we had? I know you liked me. If it weren’t for your grandfather, you’d be my wife by now.”
Byron, standing under the nearby tree, suddenly narrowed his eyes, his gaze locking onto Dillan’s hands gripping Sylvia’s shoulders.
Sylvia shoved Dillan away sharply, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Dillan, know your place. What makes you think you’re even worthy of me? You keep comparing yourself to Byron. Tell me, what exactly do you have over him?”
Not far away, Byron lifted his head with a knowing look as he heard this. His gloom vanished instantly, and a faint smile touched his handsome face.
Dillan’s face flushed. He couldn’t believe his ears that such words had come from Sylvia.
Instinctively, he turned his head and only then noticed Byron standing under the tree.
In that instant, it all clicked. So that was why Sylvia had turned so cold. It was because Byron was standing right there.
“Sylvia, don’t let Byron scare you. Come with me now. Let’s get out of here,” said Dillan.
Having pieced it together, Dillan grabbed Sylvia’s hand, determined to drag her out of the mansion.
Sylvia wrenched her hand free and delivered a stinging slap across Dillan’s face. “Dillan,” she snapped, “show some respect.”
Clutching his stinging cheek, Dillan stared at Sylvia in disbelief, his voice trembling with fury. “Sylvia, are you really that afraid of Byron? You’d actually hit me just for him?”
Sylvia warned icily, “Dillan, get out of here right now or you won’t get off so easily next time.”
At that moment, Louis came rushing over with a team of security personnel.
Dillan’s eyes darted as he gritted his teeth. He said, “Sylvia, I’ll be back for you in a few days.”
Afraid of getting beaten up, he made a quick exit from the mansion.
Dillan fumed inwardly, ‘There’s no way Sylvia would turn this cold. It has to be Byron’s doing!
‘Byron may dominate the business world now, but with my help mahaging Sylvia’s empire, she won’t fall short of him!
‘So, Sylvia can’t do without me. I’ll prove to her that I have what it takes to stand toe–to–toe with Byron.
Sylvia glanced over at Byron, let out a weary sigh, and finally walked over to him.
She said, “I’ll write you a prescription to restore your energy and vitality.”
Byron’s face darkened as he demanded, “You’re going to see him again, aren’t you?”
Sylvia snorted, “Mind your own health first. Stop sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong.”
With that, she pulled a notebook from her bag, swiftly scribbled out a prescription, thrust it at Byron, and turned to leave.
Byron’s brows knitted tightly, irritation surging within him.
He thought in disbelief, ‘She’s really leaving!
‘It’s not like I even asked her to come here in the first place!‘
Sylvia had barely taken a few steps when she suddenly heard Byron’s painful coughing fit behind her.

She turned around, just in time to see Byron’s tall frame swaying, as if he were about to collapse.
Sylvia hurried over and steadied him.
Byron saw his chance, threw an arm around Sylvia’s shoulder, and winced, his voice rough and feigning pain, “Sylvia, my head is killing me.”
Sylvia struggled to support his weight as they made their way upstairs.
Joanna rushed over to help Byron, but he suddenly lifted his head. His intense gaze was so sharp that she instinctively stepped back in fear.
Sylvia helped Byron onto the bed. As she straightened up, her hand was grabbed by Byron.
“Are you leaving me?” Byron felt a flicker of nervousness.
Sylvia didn’t want to deal with Byron, but seeing him like this and knowing she was partly to blame, she couldn’t stay angry. She said softly, “I’m not leaving. I’ll stay till you take your medicine.”
