Chapter 142

“Dillan,” Sylvia said coldly, “what’s it got to do with me if your mother has nowhere to go? Before this company was founded, was she homeless every day?”
Sylvia stood in the office lobby, her expression cold, scanning the employees, all of them Dillan’s cronies or relatives.
“And the rest of you,” Sylvia snapped, “get out of my sight now, unless you’d rather wait for the cops
The employees exchanged bewildered glances, then erupted in shouts of protest.
to drag you out.”
“Sylvia, this is Dillan’s company. How dare you stand here? It’s bad enough you’re not paying us, but now you’re even trying to kick us out.”
“We’re not leaving. Let’s see what you’re going to do about it.”
Seeing that Sylvia wasn’t budging, Fiona started making a scene. “Sylvia, you are ungrateful.
“If it weren’t for Dillan helping you all these years, you’d be dead in a ditch by now. If you really want us gone, then pay up. I’m too old to work, so you’d better make sure I’m set for life.”
With that, Fiona grabbed the laptop off the desk and hurled it to the floor, clearly trying to intimidate Sylvía.
“Want money, do you? Come here,” Sylvia said coldly, motioning for Fiona to approach.
A smug gleam flashed in Fiona’s eyes as she shuffled forward, muttering complaints under her breath. “How much are you going to give me? Make it good, or I’ll just camp out here forever.”
Before Fiona could finish, Sylvia’s hand shot out—a sharp slap sent her sprawling to the floor.
Stars flashed before Fiona’s eyes as she lay stunned on the floor. When she finally came to, she clutched her stinging cheek and charged at Sylvia like a
madwoman.
Fiona shrieked, “Sylvia, you crazy bitch, that’s the second time you’ve hit me. Just you wait. I’ll tear you limb from limb.”
“Freeze. What’s going on here?” Before Fiona could reach Sylvia, a squad of seven or eight police officers burst through the main entrance. The towering
lead officer barked at Fiona.
Upon seeing the police, Fiona’s legs nearly gave out. She instantly put on a pitiful, tearful act, grabbed the officer’s arm, and wailed, “Officer, this shameless woman swindled us out of all our money. Arrest her now.”
Without a word, the officer spun Fiona around and cuffed her. “Take your fraud claims to court. That’s not our jurisdiction. We’re here because you’re trespassing and vandalizing company property.”
The smashed laptop on the floor was clearly visible evidence.
Dillan quickly jumped to his mother’s defense. “Officer, you’ve got it all wrong-”
Before Dillan could even finish his sentence, the officers spun him around and slapped the cuffs on him too.
“You’ve been posing as Master Cameron for some time, live streaming and collecting tips from viewers. Now you’ll have to come with us for questioning,”
the officer said.
Dillan finally panicked. Desperately, he cried out to Sylvia, “Sylvia, help me.”
Sylvia said coolly, “You brought this on yourself. Serves you right. I can’t help y
p you.”
Dillan came to Silverton at Joanna’s invitation. She’d planned to frame Sylvia from the very beginning.

Now was not the time for mercy. If Sylvia really had been framed by him and Joanna back then, her fate would have been far words than Dillan u
With Dillan, his mother, and their cronies all hauled away by the police, the company finally settled back into peace.
Sylvia wasted no time. She called up a headhunting agency and hired a new batch of staff that very day. The company was soon back to normal.
At the Blair residence, Joanna choked back sobs as she clung to Liana’s hand, tears streaming down her face. “Mrs. Blair, you have to help me. Sybia totally screwed me over.”
Ever since Dillan was arrested, Joanna had been like a cat on a hot tin roof, kicking herself for trusting his scheme and investing over a hundred million
dollars into it.
At this point, Byron was her only hope of recovering the funds.
“Joanna, what happened? Take your time and tell me,” Liana said with tender concern, taking out a handkerchief to gently wipe Joanna’s tears.
Joanna cried, “Dillan was never the real Master Cameron. It was Sylvia all along. She set a trap and tricked me into believing Dillan was Master Cameron. We invested over a hundred million dollars in him. Now it’s all gone.”
Liana’s eyes widened in shock. Then, with a hint of reproach, she said, “Joanna, business is like a battlefield. You don’t really understand how things work. How could you be so impulsive?”
Joanna sobbed even harder, “Mrs. Blair, I know I messed up. But all that money belonged to my dad, and now he’s worried sick about it.”
Liana sighed, “What’s done is done. Sylvia isn’t the type to cough up the money easily. This is going to be an uphill battle.”
Joanna quickly revealed her true intention, her voice pleading. “Mrs. Blair, could you please ask Byron to talk to Sylvia for me? Byron’s the chairman of the Silverton Chamber of Commerce. If anyone can make Sylvia return my money, it’s him.”
Liana remained silent for a moment, watching as Joanna’s delicate face streamed with tears. Finally softening, Liana sighed, “Alright, I’ll talk to Byron
about it when he gets home.”
“Thank you, Mrs. Blair.” Joanna dabbed her eyes. It was getting late and Byron would be home soon. Joanna thought it best not to stay, so she quickly
took her leave.
That evening, Byron came home with Zack. Liana smiled warmly as she handed Zack a big apple. “Zack, why don’t you head upstairs and start on your homework? I need to talk to your dad for a bit.”
“Got it, Grandma.” With his backpack slung over one shoulder and an apple in hand, Zack headed upstairs.
Byron sat on the sofa, crossing his long legs. Weary from the company’s recent expansion, he rubbed the space between his eyebrows. “Mom, what’s up?”
“Sylvia completely screwed over Joanna. You can’t just stand by and do nothing,” Liana snapped, recounting the whole story to Byron.
A flash of irritation crossed Byron’s face. “Mom, I’m not getting involved. Joanna was way too greedy and acted like she knew it all. She brought this on
herself.”
Liana’s tone sharp with displeasure. “Byron, how can you say that? Joanna’s been devoted to you all these years, and our families go way back
Byron cut her off coldly, “Mom, that’s the end of it. I’m not getting involved, period.”
His relationship with Sylvia was just starting to improve. If he spoke up for Joanna now, Sylvia would definitely misunderstand.
“Byron, what the hell are you even thinking?” Liana sprang up from the sofa, her face burning with rage. “What’s so special about Sylvia anyway? Can she

“Mom?” Byron shot to his feet, his gaze sharp as a blade. After a brief silence, he gritted his teeth and said, “Fine. Stay out of this talk to Sytos!
