Chapter 145
“Mom, if you don’t let Dad come with us, how am I supposed to finish the picture a happy family my teacher told me to draw?” Zack frowned in the back seat and said to Sylvia, who was driving.
Whenever Sylvia thought of Byron, she seethed with anger. Gritting her teeth, she snapped, “We’re better off without him. Now this is what a reat loving family looks like.”
Byron was the disruptive factor that threatened her bond with the children.
From the back seat, Ruby blinked her big eyes and asked, “Mommy, can we invite Zander to come with us?”
Sylvia’s eyes lit up. “Sure. But let me check if Zander is free
She dialed Zander.
As in
not filming today. I’ll come find you guys right now.”
Sylvia sent him the address, which was a wilderness prairie. Sylvia arrived first, and Zander soon drove over to join them.
“Hi, Zander.” Ruby’s eyes lit up as soon as she saw Zander. She toddled over on her little legs, full of excitement.
Zander, dressed in crisp white designer casuals and looking every inch the young heartthrob, scooped Ruby up from the ground. With a bright smile, he asked, “Ruby, do you miss me all this time?”
“Of course I do.” Ruby, cradled in Zander’s arms, eagerly reached for the backpack on his back. “Zander, did you bring any treats? I want candy and
chocolate.”
Before Ruby could finish, Sylvia shot her a stern look. “No way. You were just complaining about a toothache yesterday. Aren’t you afraid your teeth will
all rot?”
Ruby stuck out her tongue, her face flushing red as she fell silent.
Zack blinked as he kept watching Zander. Of course, he recognized this man who was practically friends with his dad. After hesitating for a moment, Zack shuffled forward and asked timidly, “Mr. Gage, can you be my godfather and let I call you Zander too, just like Ruby does?”
‘After all, Ruby and I are real siblings. We should get the same treatment,‘ Zack thought.
Zander hesitated for a moment, then said gently, “Zack, maybe you should ask your dad about this first?”
Sylvia cut in decisively, “No need to ask him. I can make this decision.”
Zander smiled and nodded. “Alright. Then from now on, I’ll be Zack’s godfather too. You can also call me Zander.”
Zack’s face lit up with pure joy as he called out, “Okay, Zander.”
Zander raced across the prairie, cradling Ruby in one arm and holding Zack’s hand with the other. Sylvia followed close behind, snapping photos of their joyful moments.
“Zander, I knew you’d come looking for Sylvia.” At that moment, a young woman stormed out of her car, glaring at Zander.
Zander and Sylvia instinctively turned around. It was Angel.
Angel had been working with Zander on set. When she saw him cancel
ancel a scene for the day, she grew suspicious and secret followed him
Sure enough, Angel found him with Sylvia again, this time even cozying up to Ruby.
Angel pouted with playful annoyance and whined, “Sylvia, you’re being so unfair. How could you go out without inviting me?”
“Angel, don’t get the wrong idea,” Sylvia quickly explained. “It was actually Ruby’s idea to invite Zander out today.”

“That’s right, Angel. It was my suggestion.” Ruby popped her head out from Zander’s arms, waving her hand “Please don’t mundargail Camely
Seething with jealousy, Angel snatched Ruby right out of Zander’s ambs.
Then, seeing Zack still holding Zander’s hand, she yanked him over too, deliberately standing beside Sylvia to Block Zander off from them.
Zander’s thick brows knitted slightly in displeasure.
Angel shot him a smug, challenging look. “What’s with the attitude, Zander? I’m their aunt. Think you’re closer to them than blood”
“Don’t talk to Zander like that, Angel,” Ruby said anxiously. “He’s always so good to me. He is my godfather.”
“Godfather?” Angel froze, staring at Ruby in disbelief.
Before Angel could ask more, Zack piped up, “That’s right, Angel. Zander is really good to both me and Ruby. We both love him.”
Angel’s eyes widened in shock. Zander was even Zack’s godfather too.
Angel suddenly felt a pang of sympathy for Byron. ‘Oh, Byron, you big dummy. Still completely in the dark, aren’t you? she wondered. “Your kids are about to be stolen away right under your nose.‘
Meanwhile, Byron kept sneezing at his desk. He had this nagging feeling someone was talking about him behind his back as he absentmindedly flipped through documents, stealing glances at his phone.
The more he thought about Sylvia taking the kids out without him, the more angry he grew. And she didn’t even call him once all this time.
Byron forced himself to focus on the documents. ‘Someone as insignificant as Sylvia shouldn’t mess with my mood,’ he told himself.
Yet his agitation wouldn’t subside. ‘This is just too much.‘ Byron wondered. He suddenly snatched up his phone from the desk and fired off a message to
Zack.
Byron: [Send me your location. Now.]
Zack dared not disobey his father and quietly shared his location.
With an icy glance at the coordinates, Byron rose abruptly, grabbed his jacket, and strode purposefully out of the office.
Byron quickly drove to the outskirts and, from a distance, spotted Sylvia and Zander walking side by side across the grass, chatting and laughing merrily.
Byron’s face instantly darkened. When he looked the other way, his expression turned thunderous. Angel was sitting with Zack and Ruby, helping them
draw.
Great. So everyone’s here, except me. Not a single person thought to invite me,‘ Byron wondered.
Zander glanced at Sylvia and asked gently, “Sylvia, are you tired? Why don’t we go sit over there for a while?”
They walked over to a bench and sat down. Zander reached into his backpack, pulled out a bottle of water, and handed it to her.
“Thanks,” Sylvia said, reaching out to take it.
Just then, a man with an icy demeanor strode over and handed Sylvia another bottle of water.
“Drink this one,” he said in a low, commanding voice.
Sylvia looked up and saw Byron’s stormy expression. She hesitated for a moment but still took the bottle from him. However, before Byron could feel pleased, Sylvia casually tossed the bottle/straight into the trash can.
