Chapter 146
“Sylvia, can you stop jumping to conclusions? When did I ever say I resented you because of Joanna?” Byron’s face darkened instantly.
Sylvia stood up from the bench and looked Byron straight in the eye. “Since you’re not here because of Joanna, then what exactly are you doing here, Mr.
Blair?”
Byron’s face flushed crimson with rage. A wave of anger surged through him, and he wanted nothing more than to turn around and walk away right then.
He had come to her with the best of intentions, only to be met with such cutting sarcasm.
“Byron, I’ve heard about the Joanna situation. She had it coming. Don’t take it out on Sylvia.” Zander immediately stood up when he saw Byron arrive. As Byron’s longtime friend, he couldn’t help but try to mediate patiently.
Byron’s chest tightened with frustration. “Why can’t anyone see that my heart was in the right place? It feels like everyone has completely misunderstood me,‘ he wondered.
“Zander, don’t waste your breath on him. Let’s go,” Sylvia said, grabbing Zander’s hand and strode off in the opposite direction.
“Zander, are you still my friend or not? If you are, don’t you dare go with her,” Byron snapped angrily.
Conflict flickered across Zander’s handsome face. After a brief hesitation, he turned to face Byron, determination finally settling in his eyes.
“Byron, I’m sorry, We’re friends, but I have every right to pursue the woman I love. You and Sylvia are over. I care for her, and I want to be with her.” Zander stole a shy glance at Sylvia beside him, his cheeks flushing slightly
He continued, “Byron, I know Sylvia may not accept my feelings, but I’ll do everything I can to cherish her. I’d never be as chauvinistic as you, always breaking her heart time and again.”
Byron couldn’t believe Zander would beway their friendship for Syluia. His fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned pale, his face livid with rage. He was absolutely furious.
He gritted his teeth, his mind screaming at him to leave immediately–to get the hell out of there. Out of sight, out of mind. But his feet remained rooted to the ground.
Sylvia never expected Zander to confess his feelings to her here. Though she didn’t respond, she firmly took his hand and pulled him away.
Byron had left her emotionally scarred. She was too afraid to open her heart so easily again. But she would try to embrace the kindness that came her
wway.
Sylvia and Zander strolled down the burch lined path, dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves. They chatted and laughed, the moment tranquil and
idyllic
Byron was seething with frustration. He couldn’t fathom how things had spiraled so out of control. “Why is everyone siding with Sylvia, making me feel like the villain?‘ he wondered.
Byrom strode toward Angel, who was teaching Zack and Ruby how to draw.
“Angel, why didn’t you tell me you were coming here?” Byron vented his anger on his sister, then glared darkly at Zack and Ruby. “And you two–sneaking out to have fun without even telling me? After all I’ve done for you.”
Angel stood up with a pout, wringing her hands in frustration. “Byron, things are so tense between you and Sylvia right now. How could I possibly ask you to come? She’d just give me the cold shoulder.”
Zack scrambled up from the ground with a pout. “Daddy, it’s not my fault. Mom said you couldn’t join us.”
Ruby over the
lide one, toddled over to Byron, She reached up and grabbed his hand, looking up at him with wide, innocent eyes.

Chapter 146
In her adorable little voice, she said, “Daddy, you need to make it up to Mommy. Then she’ll let you come play with us again?
“Make it up to her? If f keep this up, she’ll be more arrogant, wondered Byron. ‘Getting all cozy with Zander right in front of met bo i mean nothing i
her?‘
Byron’s gaze instinctively flicked toward Sylvia and Zander, who were still walking and laughing together on the path.
But when his gaze shifted to a spot nearby, his heart lurched. A motorcycle came roaring down the road, accelerating dangerously as it barreled straight toward Sylvia–its deadly intent unmistakable.
It was a professional hitman, hired for the job. His eyes were cold and venomous, like a viper sizing up its prey.
Gripping the throttle tighter, he sent the motorcycle roaring forward, menace radiating from it as it closed in on Sylvia, getting closer by the second.
Sylvia seemed to sense something and whipped around. Just then, the motorcycle was almost on top of her–one more second, and she’d be sent flying
Bang. Sylvia’s eyes flew shut in terror, already seeing herself being hurled through the air by the motorcycle.
At the last possible moment, Byron’s instincts kicked in. He lunged forward, shielding Sylvia with his own body.
He didn’t even have time to think. Instinct drove him to shield Sylvia with his body. The next moment, the motorcycle slammed into him, sending Byron flying through the air.
With a thunderous crash, the motorcycle skidded across the pavement, spraying sparks and leaving a trail dozens of feet long.
The motorcyclist was clearly prepared, his head shielded by a full–face helmet.
Missing his target, the hitman shakily scrambled back onto his bike and sped off, vanishing from the scene in an instant.
Byron lay sprawled on the ground, blood gushing from his forehead, completely motionless.
“Byron, are you okay?” Sylvia cried out in a panic as she rushed to his side, desperately shaking him, but he remained completely unresponsive.
Zander’s face paled as he took in the situation. “Sylvia, stay here and look after Byron. I’ll get the car.”
The sudden turn of events startled Angel and the two children nearby. Without thinking, they all rushed over in a panic.
Sylvia tried to steady herself. “Angel, Byron is going to be fine. Please take Ruby and Zack home for now.”
Angel nodded quickly, but Zack and Ruby were bawling their eyes out, refusing to budge as they screamed at the top of their lungs, “Daddy, wake up.”
Angel had no choice but to force a stern expression and, despite the children’s desperate protests, drag the two sobbing kids into the car before quickly driving away from the scene.
Zander quickly drove the car over. Together, he and Sylvia carefully lifted Byron into the back seat and rushed him to the hospital.
Because of Byron’s special status, the hospital was thrown into a frenzy. Every specialist and top doctor rushed to the scene.
Sylvia quickly donned her white coat and hurried into the ER to assist in the emergency treatment.
Fortunately, Byron only suffered a mild concussion, fractured ribs, and some blood loss. His injuries weren’t life–threatening, and he should regain consciousness soon.
Sylvia stepped out of the ER, exhaling a deep sigh of relief.
“Zander,” she said, “Byron’s going to be fine, I’ll stay here with him. You should head back to the set for now.”
Though Zander was worried about Byron, Sylvia insisted he leave.
Chapter 146
Exhausted, Sylvia slumped onto the bench and gently rubbed her Brow
Even though Byron had thrown himself in front of her and taken the deadly blow, Sylvia knew all too well that the motorcyclist’s real target had aber
been her.
There was only one person who hated her this much, and that was Joanna.
Indeed, the hitman was sent by Joanna, who harbored bitter resentment toward Sylvia, especially after Sylvia had recently swindled her out of a fortune. Joanna wanted Sylvia dead right this instant.
Just then, Angel called Sylvia in a panic. “Sylvia, this is bad. A doctor just called my mom and told her Byron was hit by a motorcycle. Joanna is with her and they’re both on their way to the hospital right now.
“Whatever you do, don’t let Mom find out Byron got hurt saving you.”
Liana had always held a grudge against Sylvia. If she found out Byron got into the accident while protecting Sylvia, she would definitely make a trage
scene.
Sylvia’s eyes darkened. ‘Joanna’s coming too? If the mastermind is showing up, there’s no way I can keep this under wraps, she thought. “Well, since Joanna’s coming, this is the perfect chance to settle the score with her.
“Does she seriously think I won’t go after her just because I don’t have evidence?”
