Chapter 147
Liana’s hurried footsteps echoed through the hospital hallway. Spotting Sylvia outside the ER, Liana stormed over and snapped, “Sylvis, what the half- happened? Why was Byron in a motorcycle accident?”
Sylvia rose from the bench and saw that Liana hadn’t come alone. Joanna was right behind her.
Joanna feigned anxiety, her voice full of concern as she asked, “Sylvia, were you with Byron today? What happened? How did he end up in an accident?”
A cold, mocking smile played at Sylvia’s lips. She knew Joanna was trying to make her admit that Byron’s accident happened because he was trying to save her.
Sylvia said coldly, “Byron’s still in the hospital room. Shouldn’t you go see him first?”
Liana shot Sylvia a venomous glare, then turned and stormed into the hospital room, Joanna close on her heels.
Byron lay motionless on the hospital bed, his bare torso wrapped in white bandages. His eyes remained shut, showing no signs of regaining
consciousness.
At the sight of her son in such a state, Liana burst into tears. Grabbing the on–duty doctor, she sobbed, “Doctor, how is my son? Is he in any danger?”
The doctor quickly reassured her. “Mrs. Blair, Mr. Blair is out of danger now and should wake up soon. We really have Sylvia to thank for this.”
Sylvia jumped in to help during the emergency. Thanks to her prompt and expert intervention, she was able to stop Byron’s bleeding in time and prevent more severe complications.
The doctor was about to explain everything to Liana, but at the mention of Sylvia’s name, her eyes blazed crimson. Gnashing her teeth, Liana stormed out of the ward.
“Sylvia, explain yourself. Did Byron get hurt because he was trying to save you?” she roared.
Liana already knew what had happened. Zack came home crying and, after pressing him for answers, Liana finally learned that Byron’s accident happened when he rushed to Sylvia’s rescue.
Joanna put on a concerned face and chimed in, her tone dripping with fake sympathy, “Mrs. Blair, please don’t get upset. Let’s talk things through with Sylvia, okay?
“Byron wouldn’t do something like that. They’re already divorced/Why would he throw away his family just for her?”
Joanna gloated inwardly. ‘That motorcycle today was my doing. I arranged for it to hit Sylvia. I just didn’t expect Byron to suddenly rush out and save her. Still, this is even better; now Liana will hate Sylvia even more.’
A stinging slap cut through the air, Joanna was still inwardly gloating when a blur flashed before her eyes. Sylvia charged forward and landed a hard slap across her face.
Joanna clutched her stinging cheek, eyes wide with shock. “Sylvia, why would you hit me?”
“Joanna, don’t think for a second I don’t know you sent that motorcycle after me.” Sylvia seized Joanna by the collar.
‘If I had any proof, you’d be at the police station right now,‘ wondered Sylvia. ‘But even without it, nothing’s going to stop me from teaching you a lesson.‘
As soon as Sylvia finished speaking, Joanna’s heart skipped a beat, a shadow of fear flickering in her eyes.
‘Did Sylvia figure out the truth? Is my plan exposed?‘ she wondered. Thoughts raced through Joanna’s mind, panic threatening to take over.
But Joanna quickly forced herself to calm down. ‘No way. The guy I hired is a pro. He’d never rat me out,‘ she thought.
Joanna put on her most pitiful expression, tears welling up in her eyes as she turned to Liana. “Sylvia, what are you talking about? Why are you blaming

me again?
“Ars. Blah, do you hear these wild accusations Sylvia’s making? Byron got into that accident because of her, and now she’s trying to shift the barna si

Liana, seething with rage, raised her hand to slap Sylvia but Sylvia unceremoniously caught her wrist and shoved her bark with controlled for, yao ila you think you are? What gives you the right to hit me?”
Joanna froze in disbelief. She’d counted on Liana to put Sylvia in her place but Sylvia wasn’t intimidated in the feast.
Liana’s face turned pale, fury boiling in her chest. “Sylvia, back then, I would’ve beaten you senseless for daring to talk to me like this “
“That was then,” Sylvia sneered. “I must’ve been blind to ever treat you like family. Now all I see is a fool who’s been played like a puppet
Liana was so furious she nearly had a stroke. Through gritted teeth, she roared, “Sylvia, I slapped you because Byron almost died because of your. How dare you deny he got into that accident trying to save you?”
Sylvia nodded calmly. “True, Byron got into that accident saving me. But did I force him to? Don’t even think about guilt–tripping me, and you have rien less right to hit me.”
‘I knew it,‘ Liana thought. Her face twisted in anger, on the verge of exploding, when the hospital room door suddenly swung open.
Byron stepped out, pale and unsteady, fresh from unconsciousness. “Enough,” he said.
Seeing this, Joanna rushed to steady him. “Byron, how are you feeling?”
Liana jabbed a finger at Sylvia, her voice shaking with rage. “Byron, look at the bitch you risked your life for. She’s completely ungrateful. You should’ve just let her perish in that accident.”
Byron gazed deeply at Sylvia, his face very pale, not a trace of color on his lips. Yet there was no anger in his eyes, only a careful, lingering look as he studied her again and again.
‘Thank God she’s really okay,‘ he thought. ‘If it happened again, I’d still rush out to save her, no hesitation.‘
“What’s with that look? You think I owe you too, just like your mom? That I deserved that slap from your mom?” Sylvia’s voice was ice–cold, devoid of gratitude.
“Byron, you really should ask Joanna about what actually happened. Was that hit–and–run motorcyclist sent by her?” she continued.
Joanna’s heart trembled with fear, but she quickly put on a wronged expression and tried to explain to Byron, “Byron, please don’t listen to Sylvia’s wild accusations. She’s making things up-”
But before she could finish, Byron cut her off coldly. He wasn’t one to believe things without evidence.
Byron’s voice was laced with complicated emotions as he said, “Sylvia, you’ve got it all wrong about Joanna. I hope you can let go of your bias against
her.”
Sylvia sneered, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Byron, don’t you think you had this coming? Twisting right and wrong, and now you expect me to forgive the real culprit?
“Any gratitude I might’ve had for you saving my life–it’s completely gone now. Not a shred remains.”
Sylvia wasn’t heartless. The moment Byron risked his life to save her, her heart was profoundly moved.
In route to the hospital, she prayed fervently, even assisting the medical team. Her sole desperate wish was for Byron to survive.
But the whole Blair family always jumped to conclusions without even hearing both sides.
Sylvia mused coldly, ‘Joanna’s probably the one enjoying this the most right now. I can practically read that calculating mind of hers. She’s already
