Chapter 156
At that moment, Shawn was scared stiff, realizing with horror that he’d actually dared to lay hands on Byron,
‘What the hell was I thinking? This is suicide,‘ he berated himself.
The county officials rushed to the scene, fearing that Shawn’s actions might tarnish the county’s reputation especially since Byron was a major invest in their area.
Byron had no intention of taking it out on them. He simply gestured toward the petrified Shawn and commanded coldly, “Take him away?
The county officials quickly had the police take Shawn away, then wasted no time making up excuses to slip out themselves. No one wanted to stick around and risk Byron holding them accountable.
The courtyard had just quieted down when Sylvia turned to Byron and said coldly, “Byron, you should leave now.”
“Sylvia, you can’t just use me and then kick me to the curb,” Byron said with a hint of displeasure. Byron’s tone carried a trace of dissatisfaction.
I just helped her, and now that everything’s settled, she’s already trying to send me away?‘ he thought. ‘Why can’t she treat me a little better, just like she does with everyone else?‘
“Then what are you still doing here?” Sylvia asked with a hint of disdain. “Shouldn’t you be rushing back to check on your precious Joanna? Wouldn’t want her freaking out over you, would you?”
Byron’s eyes suddenly lit up with a hopeful glint. “Sylvia, are you jealous?” he teased, anticipation in his voice. “Actually, Joanna and I, these past few years-”
Sylvia quickly cut him off. “Mr. Blair, don’t get the wrong idea. I’m just warning you. Joanna sending that motorcycle to hit me isn’t something I’ll let slide. Tell her to be ready, because I’ll settle this score with her anytime.”
Byron’s face darkened as he realized he’d been overthinking things. He said coldly, “Sylvia, I want you to stop making accusations without any evidence. Joanna may get emotional sometimes, but she’s not capable of something like that,”
Sylvia looked up with steely eyes and fixed her gaze on Byron. “What if she really did it? If I end up putting her in prison, you wouldn’t pull strings to get her out, would you?”
“Ridiculous. That would never happen,” Byron scoffed dismissively./”Fine, if you don’t want
strode toward the door.
me here, I’ll leave.” With that, he turned on his heel and
Sylvia’s expression turned icy as she swiftly stepped forward, blocking his path. “Answer my question,” she demanded.
Byron gazed at her intently, his expression suddenly turning grave. “If Joanna really is the mastermind behind this, then she’s only reaping what she sowed. I certainly wouldn’t lift a finger to help her. Does that answer satisfy you?”
Sylvia nodded, feeling a weight lift from her chest. At the same time, her resolve hardened. ‘I will make sure Joanna ends up behind bars,‘ she told
herself.
Byron walked to his car, then turned back to Sylvia and said, “Don’t stay here too long. Call me if you need anything.” With that, ot in and drove off.
Sylvia went back into the inner room at Casey’s house.
As Sylvia entered the inner room, Casey glanced at her, then turned to her son. “Freddy, step outside for a moment. I’d like to speak with Ms. Sullivan in private.”
Freddy handed Casey the herbal medicine that Sylvia had prepared for her, waited for her to drink it, and only then stepped outside.
Sylvia pulled up a chair and sat across from Casey. “Mrs. Colon, was there something you wanted to talk to me about?”

“Ms. Sullivan, I can tell you’re a kind–hearted person,” Casey said earnestly. “Would you help talk some sense into Freddy? After all, he’s part of the com family.
“With his father now at death’s door and the household in such disarray, Freddy really ought to go back.”
Sylvia hesitated. “Freddy seems really against the Colon family. Do you think he’d even listen to me?”
Casey smiled, “Freddy is the kind of kid who knows how to return a kindness. You helped us both today, I’m sure he’ll remember that and listen to you
Sylvia smiled bitterly to herself, almost blurting out to Casey that her son had repeatedly tried to kill her.
Although she hadn’t known Freddy for long, Sylvia felt he wasn’t a bad person at heart. ‘Maybe one day he’ll finally turn over a new leaf and expose Joanna as the mastermind,‘ Sylvia thought.
“Mrs. Colon, I’ll give it a try,” Sylvia said.
Sylvia stepped out of the inner room and saw Freddy in the yard, just off the phone. She said gently, “Freddy, your mom wants you to come back to Silverton with me.”
Freddy looked up, his eyes cold and distant. “Not going,” he replied flatly.
‘How could I not know what Mom’s up to? She’s always wanted me to go see my dad,‘ he wondered.
‘But ever since the day my dad betrayed my mom, I swore I’d never set foot in the Colon residence again.‘
Sylvia was about to try persuading him again, but Freddy had already stepped out the door. He turned back, his voice icy, and said, “I’m going to my class reunion. Don’t follow me.”
After a brief hesitation, Sylvia followed him anyway.
Freddy had initially planned to call a cab to the class reunion, but noticing Sylvia persistently tailing him, he abruptly changed his mind.
He walked into a ramshackle shed nearby and wheeled out his motorcycle. It was the very same bike he’d used to run Sylvia down that day.
‘If she’s sharp enough, she’ll recognize it,’ he thought. He was counting on this to scare her off, making it crystal clear he was the one who’d hit her, and forcing her to back off.
Sylvia had recognized Freddy from the start, but she wasn’t the least bit afraid. In fact, she saw right through his little scheme. He just wanted her gone.
She wouldn’t leave. She was still holding out hope that one day she could convince Freddy to expose Joanna as the mastermind behind it all.
Freddy swung onto his motorcycle, revved the engine, and tore out of the yard. Sylvia jumped into her car and tailed Freddy closely.
Freddy arrived at a bustling restaurant in the town. Inside, bright lights shone over the buzz of conversation and laughter.
“Well, well, if it isn’t Freddy–finally decided to show up, huh?” Jake Wilson sneered.
The restaurant table was packed with Freddy’s high school classmates. A guy with bleached blond hair shot him a disdainful loc Freddy’s archenemy back in school.
Freddy glanced at Jake and noticed his arm around the girl beside him, none other than his high school first crush, Jamila Morgan.
Jamila was strikingly attractive, dressed in a sultry, figure–hugging gown that accentuated her curves.
ut was Jake
When she spotted Freddy, there wasn’t a hint of embarrassment. Instead, she looked him up and down, lips curling in scorn, and sneered, “After all these years, you’re still as shabby as ever.”
“Jamila, is that any way to talk about your ex?” Jake sneered. “Sure, he’s a down–and–out loser who can’t hold a candle to me, but you don’t have to be so harsh, sweetheart.”

Jake let out a loud laugh, then deliberately reached into Jamila’s bra and gave her a squeeze, making her let out a suggestive mean
The classmates around them burst into raucous laughter.
Freddy’s face was impassive as he grabbed a chair and sat down, his cold gaze sweeping over his classmates. “I’m not here for your damn dinner Back high school, I lent money to a lot of you. Now I want it back.”
Back then, he’d just moved out of the Colon residence and had some savings, so he was generous. But now he saw them for what they were, a bunch of fair–weather friends. He was determined to collect every last cent.
Jamila sneered, “Oh please, Freddy, are you still fussing over that measly hundred bucks? With Jake backing me, i’m about to break into showbiz. Ant one acting gig and I’ll make more than you could in several lifetimes.”
Sylvia, who had been trailing Freddy, sat at a nearby table. At the mention of showbiz, she perked up.
Sylvia knew showbiz inside out. Not only did she own companies overseas, but she’d just launched Cerulean Entertainment in Dranlord, even signing Zander.
