Outside the set, a young man stood gaping in disbelief. He was actually seeing so many A–list actors gathered in one place. This was Freddy. He was here at Sylvia’s request.
“Who are you? What are you doing here?” Just then, the assistant director, Henry, spotted Freddy peeking in from outside the studio. Frowning in suspicion, he strode over authoritatively.
Freddy suddenly panicked, his face flushing red as he stammered, “I–I’m just waiting for someone.”
Henry gave Freddy a once–over. “So, who exactly are you waiting for?”
Freddy almost instinctively blurted out Sylvia’s name, but after a brief hesitation, he clamped his mouth shut.
Freddy doubted Henry would even know who Sylvia was. After all, he was a big shot in showbiz. Even if Sylvia knew people in the industry, Henry might not necessarily defer to her.
“I think I’ll just wait for her outside,” Freddy stammered, instinctively turning toward the main entrance.
Just then, Sylvia pulled up in her car.
Sylvia stepped out of the car and asked curiously, “Freddy, why are you leaving again?”
Freddy was dressed in a black tracksuit and white sneakers, with a black backpack slung over his shoulder. He looked every bit like a college kid.
“I just got here. Since I didn’t see you around, I thought I’d wait for you at the entrance,” Freddy murmured, then stole a nervous glance over his shoulder at Henry.
He wondered if Sylvia would get dragged into this because of him, and hoped Henry wouldn’t take it out on her.
“Henry, this is Freddy, a former motorcycle stuntman. Please have him assist on set.” Sylvia turned to Henry at the studio entrance.
Freddy froze in shock. ‘Is she actually ordering this renowned assistant director?‘ he thought.
“Certainly, Ms. Sullivan,” said Henry. To Freddy’s utter astonishment, Henry readily agreed.
Henry completely changed his previous attitude. He walked over, patted Freddy on the shoulder, and said warmly, “Come with me.”
Freddy felt like he was dreaming. ‘Is this really happening? Is this for real? The showbiz world I’ve always longed for is right here, he marveled, taking in the studio buzzing with actors rehearsing and filming
Freddy was instantly mesmerized, unable to tear his eyes away from the dazzling scene unfolding before him.
Following Freddy into the studio, Sylvia called from behind, “Freddy, have you had breakfast yet?”
It was at least a few hours‘ ride from Freddy’s village to here. He’d clearly set out on his motorcycle very early in the morning.
Freddy hesitated for a moment before answering, “I had a little something at home. I’m not hungry right now.”
