Chapter 165
Freddy stared at Sylvia in disbelief. “What did you say? My dad- No, you mean you can save him.”
Doubt flooded his mind. His father had been in a vegetative state for years, muscles atrophied, breath barely detectable, yet Sylvia insisted he could still be saved. Did she even know real medicine?
“If I say he can be saved, then he can be saved,” Sylvia declared with conviction.
Sylvia had previously taken Wade’s pulse. Although his body was indeed weak, it was simply due to advanced age. There was no sign of any major organ failure.
Sylvía pulled an exquisite needle case from her bag. After carefully sterilizing the silver needles with alcohol, she inserted them one by one with precision into Wade’s body, targeting key acupoints to reactivate his dormant bodily functions.
Not only would he survive, but he might even regain consciousness.
Freddy watched silently from the side as time ticked by. His patience was wearing thin, but the person lying in the hospital bed still showed no sign of waking up.
“I’ve done what you asked. I came to see him. Now I’m leaving,” Freddy spoke coldly. Even though the man on the hospital bed was his father, he could never forgive what he’d done to his mother.
He’d come to see him, and that was the last of his duties done.
He turned toward the door, his hand reaching for the handle when from behind him, came the faint sound of a cough.
Freddy jolted as he whipped around. On the hospital bed, the old man was struggling for breath, his dull, lifeless eyes slowly fluttering open.
Freddy’s eyes widened in shock as he stared at Sylvia in disbelief. She had actually revived him.
“You are ” Wade’s lips trembled, his voice a hoarse whisper. Years of being bedridden had left his speech almost gone.

“I’m the doctor here to treat you,” Sylvia said with a gentle smile, reaching to take Wade’s pulse once more.
Hearing Sylvia’s words, Wade, lying on the bed, somehow found the strength to yank his hand back. “I don’t need treatment. Get out.”
With that, he shut his eyes, utterly defeated, ready to embrace death.
Sylvia’s expression darkened. Given Wade’s critical condition, if he lost the will to live, no medicine could save him. He might not even survive the day.
“Mr. Colon, since you’re unwell, you really should see a doctor,” Sylvia said gently.
Sylvia tried to reason with him, but Wade remained unmoved on the bed, as if waiting for death.
Sylvia said to Wade, “If you give up now, have you thought about your loved ones?” Sylvia’s words hit a raw nerve with Wade.
‘Family?‘ Wade thought bitterly. ‘I was reduced to a vegetative state years ago, and I know exactly who did this to me. This kind of betrayal is even more vicious than anything an enemy could do.‘
“Freddy, looks like Mr. Colon doesn’t need us anymore,” Sylvia said with a sigh as she put away the acupuncture needles. Rising to her feet, she glanced at Freddy waiting by the door. “Let’s go.”
At that very moment, Wade, who had been ready to embrace death, suddenly snapped open his eyes upon hearing Freddy’s name.
Wade’s clouded eyes locked onto Freddy. Tears streamed down his wrinkled cheeks as he choked out, “Freddy”
Before Wade stood the son he had wronged the most, and cherished above all.

His hand trembled as he tried to reach out, but his weakened body refused to respond, cold sweat beading on his forehead,
As Freddy gazed at his father on the hospital bed, a storm of emotions churned inside him.
Freddy steeled himself, recalling his father’s betrayal, and turned to leave.
“Mr. Colon,” Sylvia asked meaningfully, “if you recover, would you still let Freddy suffer out there?”
Wade choked out, “Never.”
Freddy paused mid–step but didn’t turn around. Through clenched teeth, he said, “Even if I suffer out there, it has nothing to do with him anymore. It’s
too late for that now.”
“Mr. Colon,” Sylvia pressed gently, “aside from Freddy, have your other children been good to you?”
Wade let out a long, bitter sigh. “They’re nothing but a pack of wolves. The moment they learned I was leaving my inheritance to Freddy, they poisoned my food. That’s how I ended up like this.”
Upon hearing this, Freddy’s expression shifted. He turned to look at Wade.
Sylvia, seeing the timing was right, deliberately urged Freddy to leave. “Freddy, don’t listen to him. Let’s just go. With his health, he can’t handle any more stress. Who knows, something bad might happen to him after we leave.”
“Enough. What if something happens to him?” Freddy urgently cut Sylvia off and rushed to the bedside.
Sylvia smiled softly, took out a heart–protecting pill, and gently placed it into Wade’s mouth. Once the pill had dissolved, she turned to Freddy and reassured him. “Rest assured. With this pill, Mr. Colon’s condition will gradually improve.”
Sylvia turned to Freddy and said gently, “You should stay with your father for a while. I’ll be waiting outside the ward.”
Sylvia quietly left the room, giving the father and son some much–needed private time.
She believed that blood ties ran deep. Between father and son, there was no rift that couldn’t be mended.
Byron stood waiting by the corridor window, his gaze fixed on the ward door,
As Sylvia stepped out, Byron turned and asked, “Well? Has Mr. Colon, regained consciousness?”
Sylvia nodded. “He’s awake.”
A bright smile broke across Byron’s face as he hurried to share the good news with his grandfather.
Edward and Wade had been close friends for many years, which was why Byron had specifically asked Sylvia to treat Wade.
“I’ve cured Mr. Colon. That’s practically doing you a favor. Don’t you think you owe me something in return?” Sylvia asked with a sly, almost teasing half-
smile.
“What did you have in mind?” Byron arched an eyebrow.
The corners of Sylvia’s lips curled into a deeper smile. “It’s simple. Grant me full custody of Zack.”
Her longing grew stronger each day to see Zack and Ruby living together as siblings. Not only would it ease her mind, but both kids would be so much happier.
“Dream on.” Byron’s expression darkened instantly. “Why don’t you give me full custody of Ruby instead?”
The issue of full custody was like an unbridgeable chasm between them. Every time it came up, it inevitably led to a fierce confrontation.
At that moment, Freddy stepped out of the hospital room, his eyes red–rimmed.

He had just reconciled with Wade, finally unraveling the emotional knots that had bound them for years.
In that moment, he understood all the silent endurance and sacrifices his father had made, and, more importantly, he felt the love that had never truly
been absent.
Overflowing with gratitude toward Sylvia, Freddy immediately stepped in front of her when he saw the tense standoff with Byron.
Locking eyes with Byron in a firm challenge, Freddy declared, “Mr. Blair, what do you think you’re doing? As long as I’m here, you won’t lay a finger on Ms. Sullivan.”
