Chapter 170
“Freddy, is all this jewelry for Sylvia?”
Joanna asked, her eyes wide as she took in the leather cases the bodyguards were holding. The glittering gems inside held her captivated for a monsent
Then, a flash of envy twisted her features as she glared at Freddy.
‘He must have made a mistake!‘ she thought, convinced the gifts were meant for her. After all, she was the one who had helped him.
Joanna decided to jog his memory. “Freddy, aren‘
“No,” Freddy cut her off, his voice sharp and his eyes cold. “Joanna, this is a token of my appreciation for Sylvia, It has nothing to do with you.
The color drained from Joanna’s face, her expression hardening.
At that moment, Sylvia rose slowly from her chair, her gaze settling on Freddy. She had a feeling that in just a few short days, he had matured considerably.
Her eyes scanned the expensive jewelry laid out in the cases. “Freddy, the thought is more than enough,” she said calmly. “I can’t accept these
A murmur went through the hall as guests turned to stare at the row of black cases.
Every piece was priceless, including the famous Star of Vulcan, which had sold at an international auction for an astronomical price.
And Sylvia was turning it down?
Freddy seemed to have expected this.
He dropped to one knee, looking up at her earnestly.
“Sylvia, please, you have to take them.”
At his signal, the bodyguards behind him knelt in unison. “Ms. Sullivan, please accept them!” they chanted.
“Alright, everyone get up,” Sylvia sighed, looking at the scene with a sense of resignation. “I’ll accept them, okay? Just get up.”
A wide grin spread across Freddy’s face.
He stood and motioned for his men to do the same. They rose, placed the cases neatly on the table beside Sylvia, and then stood back, guarding the jewels like sentinels.
Sylvia walked to a window and gazed outside.
Freddy followed her. “Sylvia, is there anything else I can do for you?” he asked quietly.
After a moment of silence, she asked softly, “How is Mr. Colon doing?”
A warmth entered Freddy’s eyes, and a rare smile touched his lips. “He’s much better. He can even sit up in a wheelchair now. He told me to thank you properly. Your medicine saved his life.”
Sylvia nodded, her gaze thoughtful. “Is there anything else you need to tell me?”
Freddy knew exactly what she was asking. He looked down, deliberating for a moment “Sylvia, I’m sorry. I still can’t tell you who it was
Sylvia just sighed, not pressing the issue. “It’s your decision.”
“Are you angry with me?” he asked, nervously clenching his fists.

“No.” Sylvia took a sip of water, tapping a slender finger against the glass. If Freddy didn’t want to give up Joanna, she wouldn’t force him. She was confident Joanna would get what she deserved eventually.
She looked up. “So, what are your plans now?”
“Well, you mentioned helping out on the film crew, right?” Freddy rubbed the back of his neck. “I think that sounds great. I’ve always been into stunts, 1 could be a stuntman…”
Sylvia quickly shook her head. “Mr. Colon is getting older. It’s time for you to learn the family business. The Colon enterprises will be yours one day
Mr. Colon had brought this up with Freddy before, but he had refused. Hearing it from Sylvia, however, he nodded without hesitation. “Okay. Whatever you say, Sylvia.”
“The chairman is here,” someone whispered.
All eyes turned to the entrance as a tall, imposing man strode into the hall. Byron Blair radiated an intimidating authority, and his bodyguards kept the crowd at a respectful distance.
As chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, he represented the ultimate power in Silverton’s business world. His cold gaze swept the room, and an instant silence fell.
As was customary for the Chamber’s cocktail party, the host invited Byron to the stage, where he delivered a brief speech.
The audience listened intently, and when he finished, the room erupted in applause.
The cheerful party music started up again.
Byron’s gaze lowered, lingering for a moment on Sylvia and Freddy before he stepped off the stage.
“Freddy,” Byron said, his voice low and his face unreadable.
Remembering the humiliating dressing–down Byron had given him before, Freddy tensed up.
Sylvia stepped forward. “Byron, Freddy hasn’t done anything to you. Leave him alone.”
Byron frowned, glancing at Freddy. “Come with me.”
“You don’t have to listen to him,” Sylvia told Freddy.
Freddy hesitated, then made his decision. “It’s okay. He’s the chairman of the Chamber. I need to start getting involved for my father’s sake.”
Sylvia nodded. As the heir to the Colon family, Freddy did need to start acting like a man who could shoulder its responsibilities.
Freddy found Byron waiting for him in the corridor. “Mr. Blair, you wanted to see me?” he asked nervously.
Byron gave him a long, hard look. “The Colon family owns a packaging company. It could partner with … lair Group in the future.”
Freddy’s eyes widened in surprise. This was a massive business opportunity.
“Thank you, Mr. Blair,” he said gratefully.
Byron gave a curt nod. “And if you ever have questions about business, you can come to me.”
“Okay, thank you, Mr. Blair,” Freddy said, his excitement growing.
Byron said nothing more, just stared at Freddy with a deep, calculating look, the corner of his mouth twitching into a faint smirk.
Freddy paused, then a thought occurred to him. He asked cautiously, “Mr. Blair, is there… something you want from me ki return

He knew Byron wouldn’t offer him all this for nothing.
Seeing that the kid was quick on the uptake, Byron spoke slowly. “Freddy, you might not know this, but Sylvia is my ex–wife.”
The words hit Freddy like a thunderbolt, freezing him on the spot.
It all made sense now–Byron’s jealousy, his anger.
“Mr. Blair, I swear, I have no romantic feelings for Sylvia! You have to believe me!” Freddy stammered, his face flushing red.

Byron clapped him on the shoulder, his voice low but firm. “I have a job for you. I want you to ask Sylvía to have lunch with me tomorrow. I’ll be waiting for her at The Grandview Hotel.”
