Chapter 64
“How much is the rent here per month?” Byron saw Sylvia nod, agreeing to film there, and turned to Quinn.
Quinn didn’t dare overcharge him. After a moment’s hesitation, she quoted the lowest price: “Mr. Blair, 1.6 million dollars a month.”
Hearing this, Sylvia pulled out her phone to make the transfer, but Byron stopped her with a raised hand.
He quickly wrote a check and handed it to Quinn, his expression blank.
‘Think divorcing me means you can cut ties? Impossible! I’ll show her she needs me for everything! She can’t get away from me!‘
Byron’s chauvinistic move irritated Sylvia. ‘Same old routine! Does he think money solves everything?‘
Quinn watched from the side, filled with envy. ‘We’re both divorced women, how did she get so lucky?‘
Byron and Quinn settled the details of the rental period and access. Sylvia couldn’t get a word in, standing aside, her face flushed with anger.
The more controlling Byron acted, the more repulsed she felt.
Once everything was settled, Byron strode over and got into his car.
Sylvia hurried after him, fuming. “Mr. Blair, stay out of my business from now on. We’re divorced.”
Hearing her words, a sour feeling crept into Byron’s chest. ‘Is she trying to tell me she’s seeing someone else? Trying to escape my control?”
He clenched his jaw and, on impulse, retorted, “People get remarried all the time!”
“In your dreams!” Sylvia snapped, furious. She slammed the car door shut and stormed off.
Byron watched her retreating back and scoffed. ‘Cut ties with me? Not a chance!‘
Sylvia stayed at Century Town, hiring workers to clear weeds and clean up. She spent the whole day busy before finally heading home. Jolie had already picked up Ruby.
“Mommy, I miss Daddy,” Ruby said, running up to Sylvia the moment she walked in, her big eyes pleading. “Is Daddy still filming? Is he busy? Does he have time to see me?”
Ruby believed Zander was her father. She knew he was a busy actor and wouldn’t have brought it up unless she really missed him.
A pang hit Sylvia’s heart. Since she also needed to discuss the Century Town filming with Zander, she gave him a call.
Zander had just finished shooting for the day and readily agreed.
Sylvia drove Ruby to a hotel.
Zander was already waiting by the entrance. He looked as handsome as ever in a sharp navy suit, his hair perfectly styled. His deep–set eyes seemed full of warmth, drawing you in.
Seeing Zander, Ruby immediately jumped out of the car and ran towards him on her little legs, shouting from a distance, “Daddy, I’m here!”

Chapter 64
“Ruby, it’s been a while. Did you miss Daddy?” Zander asked gently. Looking at the adorable little girl in his arms, he felt no awkwardness, only growing
affection.
“Yes!” Ruby replied brightly.
Zander chuckled, asked a few more questions, then carried Ruby over to a nearby delivery van. “Ruby, look what Daddy got you.”
The driver opened the back of the van, and Ruby’s eyes lit up. It was packed with all sorts of toys.
Zander had specially picked them out from Disneyland’s best shops, all perfect for Ruby’s age.
Ruby grabbed a Mickey Mouse plushie, instantly captivated. Little kids just couldn’t resist cute, fluffy toys.
“Zander, don’t spoil her too much. She already has so many toys at home,” Sylvia said with a smile. She could see in his eyes that he genuinely adored Ruby, which made her happy but also guilty, knowing Ruby actually her child with Byron.

Zander replied cheerfully, “It’s nothing. As long as Ruby’s happy, that’s all that matters. When she gets bored with these, I’ll just buy her new ones.”
Before Sylvia could say anything, Ruby piped up sweetly from Zander’s arms, “Thank you, Daddy!”
The three went up to the fifth–floor restaurant, where Zander had already reserved a table. The servers quickly brought their food, along with a special children’s cake just for Ruby.
“Daddy, can you feed me?” Ruby asked, opening her mouth slightly and looking up at Zander expectantly.
Only with him did she act like other kids, seeking affection from her father, because she knew he loved her.
Zander patiently fed Ruby the cake, spoonful by spoonful, and she ate with relish.
Once Ruby had eaten her fill, Sylvia called Jolie to come and take her to play nearby. Then, she started discussing the Century Town filming with Zander.
Zander listened attentively. To help Sylvia’s film succeed, he had even arranged for several well–known actors to make cameo appearances.
“Zander, thank you,” Sylvia said gratefully.
Zander looked at Sylvia, his heart suddenly racing and his face flushing. He’d never felt like this before. “Sylvia, I’d do anything for you.”
“Zander, your face is so red. Are you running a fever?” Sylvia asked with concern.
Zander explained, flustered, “No, it’s nothing. Probably just the wine.” He deliberately took a sip of his red wine and then poured a little for Sylvia. “Sylvia, try this. It’s a Romanee–Conti, very smooth. I brought it specially from home.”
“Zander, I’m sorry, I’m allergic to alcohol. I can’t drink.” Sylvia replied apologetically, her voice soft but firm.
“Allergic? Is it serious?” Zander asked anxiously. “Sylvia, with your medical skills, can’t you cure it?”
Sylvia just shook her head silently.
For years, Sylvia hadn’t dared to drink alcohol or eat anything sweet, even avoiding most fruits. Any exposure triggered an allergic reaction, sometimes severe enough to make her pass out.
It was all because of Byron. Years ago, he’d been poisoned at a business function without knowing it. To save him, Sylvia had secretly tested countless remedies on herself until she found the antidote.
But the accumulated toxins had left her with this permanent, severe allergy.
