Chapter 81
Byron stood just outside the audition room, his gaze locked on Sylvia as she performed inside, his eyelid twitching uncontrollably.
‘That scene Sylvia’s performing is clearly referencing what happened between us, Byron thought angrily.
He nearly lost it and was about to barge in to stop this ridiculous act, but clenched his fists and forced himself to stay put,
What if I’m just overthinking it?‘ he wondered. ‘Maybe it’s just a coincidence that the plot resembles our experiences.
Sylvia’s emotional outburst stunned everyone present. No one had expected her acting to be so masterful.
Joanna, acting opposite Sylvia, suddenly panicked. Sylvia’s performance was so intense that Joanna even forgot her lines for a moment. She took a deep breath before finally managing to slip back into character.
‘Not only must I outshine Sylvia in acting, but I’ve got to wow the judges too, Joanna steeled herself.
With tears streaming down her face, Joanna stepped forward, grabbed Sylvia’s hand, and delivered her scripted lines. “You misunderstood me. We grew up together. He’s always loved me. I never meant to steal him away from you.”
Byron’s expression darkened further at the doorway. ‘Now it all makes sense. It must be Sylvia who wrote this damn script, he thought, furious. ‘Even
the tone of the female supporting character is spot–on.’
Sylvia was completely lost in her role, years of pent–up grievances flooding her heart as she became one with the character. Seeing Joanna’s sniveling, pretentious act, Sylvia abruptly wrenched her hand away and slapped her hard across the face.
Sylvia glared at Joanna and snapped, “Joanna, cut the crap. If you loved Byron so much, why wait until after I married him to say it?
“Did you get some sick pleasure out of wrecking my marriage? Fine. If you’re so into that bastard, then go be with him. Just stay the hell away from me.”
Joanna was stunned by the unexpected slap, her cheek burning with pain. This wasn’t in the script at all, Joanna thought, stunned.
Outside the door, Byron’s aura turned ice–cold, a brewing tempest darkening his brow as he radiated a terrifying, violent rage.
‘That bitch had the nerve to shout my name in front of everyone, and even called me a fucking bastard,‘ Byron fumed inwardly.
The door burst open with a violent crash.
Byron’s face was as dark as a thundercloud. He violently kicked open the audition room door and, through gritted teeth, bellowed her name. “Sylvia, what the hell are you doing?”
Sylvia froze in shock, only then realizing she’d broken character. She was supposed to be following the script, yet somehow Byron’s name had slipped
out.
“This movie is over.” With those words, Byron stormed out in furious strides.
Byron fumed inwardly, ‘She actually wants to turn what happened between us into a movie? How shameless can she be? So this is her way of getting back at me. Shut it down. This goddamn movie must be killed immediately.‘
Sylvia felt irritated. ‘Sure, the script is based on our story,‘ she thought. “Byron had the facing now?”
guts to do all those things back then, but what’s he so afraid of
Nevertheless, she hurried after him. Pre–production was already underway. She couldn’t let Byron sabotage this.
“Byron, stop right there.” Sylvia’s sharp voice echoed through the hallway.
Byron’s fingers tensed around his phone as he was about to make the call. One call and this movie was done, no more shooting, no release.
Chapter 81
Who does she think she is, telling me to stop?‘ Byron wondered.
The next instant, he clenched his phone tightly in his palm and came to an abrupt halt.
Sylvia strode up to him. “What the hell was that about? Since when do you get to meddle in my film projects?”
Byron’s temper flared again, his face darkening. “How dare you ask me what’s wrong?”
He stared at Sylvia, his face tight with anger. She had been so lost in her role that a glistening tear still clung to the corner of her eye. For a brief, barely perceptible moment, he was caught off guard.
‘If she hasn’t loved me so deeply, why would she be this heartbroken?‘ he wondered.
Byron’s gaze softened abruptly, and out of nowhere, he blurted out a completely random question. “Did you have lunch yet?”
Sylvia was caught off guard, momentarily speechless. ‘Is that arrogant guy overthinking things again?‘ she thought irritably.
“If you haven’t eaten yet, let me take you out to grab a bite right now.” Byron’s deep, velvety voice rang out again, his tone noticeably softening,
He’d made up his mind. If he wanted to win Sylvia back, he’d have to be as forgiving as possible.
Sylvia tapped her ear as if to confirm she’d heard right, then immediately cut him off. “Cut the crap. Whether I eat or not is none of your business. Just tell me. Are you trying to sabotage my film?”
Byron straightened his suit jacket with studied nonchalance and gave a soft scoff. “Please. I’m not that petty.”
Sylvia scoffed, “Byron, why can’t I bring myself to believe a word you say?”
After being snapped at by Sylvia several times, Byron grew increasingly irritated. He unconsciously tugged at his tie and snapped, “Eat or don’t eat–i don’t care. I’m busy and heading back to the office.”
Sylvia couldn’t figure out what was on his mind, but it was obvious he was
s seething with anger.
Sylvia went back to the audition room. Zander gave her a concerned look. “Sylvia, what happened with Byron just now?”
“Forget about him,” Sylvia said curtly.
Sylvia returned to the judge’s seat, looked at Joanna, still standing there, and said coolly, “Your audition is over. Go back and await further notice.”
Joanna’s cheek still bore a vivid red handprint, with tears of humiliation streaming down her face. She got slapped for nothing, and she still didn’t get the lead role.
Joanna stamped her foot, grabbed Angel’s hand, and ran out of the audition room in tears.
Sylvia quickly composed herself and resumed auditioning the remaining actors.
The auditions finally wrapped up as evening fell.
Zander had originally planned to take Sylvia out to dinner, but seeing how exhausted she looked, he gently told her, “Sylvia, go home and get some proper rest.
“As for the audition results, I’ll discuss them with the other assistant directors first, and then you’ll have the final say.”
When Sylvia got home, she found that Jolie had already picked up Ruby. The little girl was sitting on the couch watching cartoons, her tiny feet swinging
back and forth.
When Ruby spotted her mother coming in, she ran over eagerly, her face lighting up with joy. “Mommy, a sir named Ryan Cho just called.
