Chapter 63
I’m sure there are people screaming at me. Sounds and movements everywhere but I can’t take my eyes off the box. My brothers. That’s what lies inside. Their heads, lifeless, cold, staring back at me. My heart is pounding in my ears. I can’t move, I can’t breathe. I feel hands on me, muffled voices and then a hand on my throat.
“What the fuck are you doing Tony?!” I hear Luciano, a voice, I can hear. I’m here.
“She’s having a panic attack. This will help to ground her quickly. Just wait.” I blind and my eyes focus on his green panicked eyes in front of me now. Where am I? I move my hand to his on my throat and he drops it immediately. “There you are, honey, you’re okay, we’re here, just breath.” His words are a soothing balm. I dart my eyes around and notice we’re inside a building, a room, no windows, a very crowded room full of family that was not long ago laughing and smiling.
“Okay, go Luciano, I’ve got this!” Tony yells.
“Where’s he going? What’s happening? Where’s Luca? What did the note say?!”
The words are falling from my mouth, there’s so much I need to know.
“Honey, I need to go help check the perimeter. This is a direct threat towards you. Jeremy is here with the rest of your guards. Are you going to be okay if I go? I need to make sure you’re safe.”
“Yes, yes go!”
I’m lifted off of Tony’s lap and passed to Jeremy. My legs wobble from the adrenaline and he quickly reaches out to steady me.
“Woah there Donna, I’ve got you. Hayes!” Another man approaches. “This is Hayes, Donna. Go get the rest of the guys.” He nods and Jeremy hands me a bottle of water, telling me to drink. I take in the room full of females and children. We must be in a safe room. The only men, tall and dominating in the room are all making their way towards us now.
“Donna, this is Brody, Ramen, James and Hudson. We are your guards, here to protect you.” They all bow and I swallow the last of my fear. I am Donna, and not just that, I’m a fucking assassin. I need to push all these fears aside and be who I was raised to be.
“Gentlemen, I appreciate your presence. Please, attend to those in need, assure our Nonna’s are safe and give attention to anyone who needs it.”
“But Donna…” Hayes starts.
“No buts, I gave you an order.”
“Yes Donna“, they say together and head off in different directions. I look at Jeremy who hasn’t budged and I raise my eyebrow at him.
“Oh no, I’m not leaving, your men will kick my ass. Trust me, I’ve had my tumbles with them when we were young and I don’t want that now that they can really kick my ass. I’m staying, right here.”
“Fine, but I’m not. Someone just threatened my life and now they’re out there risking their lives for mine? No. I can help and I will help.”
“Donna…”
“No buts, you can stay or you can follow along.”
I move towards the staircase to exit and look back at Jeremy who looks extremely conflicted.
“Are you coming. Puppy?”
We reach the top of the stairs and I lift the hatch slowly looking and listening.
“Donna?!” a guard beside the hatch starts.
“Shhhhhh” I tell him as I lift it enough for us to exit and place it back down quietly.
“If you two want to give away exactly where all of the women and children are, by all means stand right where you are. If you want to be a little less of a dead giveaway, go stand in those bushes over there.” The guards look at each other and then head off to the bushes about 20 meters
away

“Now you, do exactly what I say and exactly what I do or you can stay here.” I say to Jeremy who nods.
“Where are we going?” He asks in a whisper as we make our way through the shrubbery that surrounds the backyard. I can’t see any other men around and I gather they’ve all gone off on a wild goose chase.
“If you were to hand a loaded box of heads to a mafia family event in the hopes of causing chaos and fear, do you think you would want to miss that moment?”
I can see his brain ticking away.
“And now our men will be surrounds the perimeter of the property, looking on the outside for whoever dropped the box that couldn’t deliver it inside the gates. What no one realizes is, there would have to be someone inside.”
His eyes blow wide from the bush we’re crowded behind and I motion for him to be quiet and then point in the direction ahead of us. Across the field I spot a figure dressed in all black watching our men outside the fences, waiting for a break in their rounds to make his escape. What he doesn’t realize is, the fucker isn’t going anywhere.
“I’ll tell the guys”
“The fuck you will!” I whisper yell at him. “They are big and loud. The guy will spot them moving from a mile away and most likely he will kill himself before they can get to him and torture him for information. Here’s what we’re going to do. You’re going to sit right here like a good little puppy and I’m going to go catch him.”
“Donna I can’t let you do that. They will have my fucking balls!”
I roll my eyes and then train them back on my target.
“Fuck! Okay, take off your shoes!”
“My shoes?!”
“Yes, your fucking shoes, hurry up. You’ll be able to feel more with your bare feet and keep silent easier.”
He does as I tell him to and I take off my own. We quietly slick through the shadows of the night. I can feel his anxiety radiating off him, but he will learn to trust me. We’re only a few meters from the figure who is crouched behind his own bush, watching our guards a distance away from the fence now. As he sees is opening, I see mine. He moves quickly to the fence and goes to raise his foot on to a nearby tree to leverage himself up. As his hands grip the fence, I move quick as lightening, grabbing the back of his hair and slamming his head three times into the metal bars before I am sure he will be out cold. I feel his body slump and then I hear Jeremy yell, “OVER HERE! WE GOT ONE!”
I whir! around at him as flash lights come from the direction of the fence.
“Bad puppy!”
“What?!” he says innocently.
“They’ll kill him before I get any answers!”
“Donna?!” The guards yell as they approach. I roll my eyes. “Don’t give me that same ‘you shouldn’t be here crap‘“.
*Angel?! What the fuck?!”
“Oh here we go, you see what you did, puppy?!”
I turn on my heels and begin to walk away, not before I yell over my shoulder, “I want him alive, Luciano!”
