Chapter 12 Are You Adopting Me for Money?

The caretaker could feel Chloe’s resistance and kept a straight face as she lied, “Chloe’s doing a DNA test right now. There’s a good chance her grandparents will come pick her up soon, so you all need to turn off the livestream immediately. Whatever you want to talk about, do it outside–don’t say anything in front of the kid!”
The streamers smacked their lips and sneered. A man stormed forward and shoved the woman aside; caught off guard, she stumbled and fell out of the frame.
Chloe was immediately surrounded–completely trapped,
She scooted back in fear. “Don’t come any closer!”
But the male streamer grinned wickedly as he looked her up and down, his gaze making her extremely uncomfortable. “Chloe, you’re really pretty. Are you still an orphan? Is your family coming to get you or not?”
Another female streamer shoved her phone in Chloe’s face and cooed, “Chloe, we’ve got a family. If you come live with us. you’ll be the youngest in the family, and we will definitely spoil you! And did you know? A famous director already has their eye on you! You’re gonna be a huge star! You’ll be a child celebrity, and we will take such good care of you–wouldn’t that be
great
A man pushed the woman aside, looking disgusted, “Listen to yourself. Do you seriously want to adopt Chloe? You just want to cash in on her, turn izr into a child star and milk her like a cash cow!”
He raised his phone toward Chloe and declared righteously, “Chloe, let me tell you–if you pick me, I’ll give you my whole heart. I’ll treat you like my own daughter. I even looked it up, only people who can’t have kids are allowed to adopt. You’ll officially be my daughter in no time!”
But even as they spoke, none of them actually looked at her. They all had phones for faces, their eyes fixed on their screens instead of her.
The other streamers were pissed off and shot back at the man. “Hey! What do you mean, your daughter? We came too, didn’t we? You think we’re leaving empty–handed? We’re adopting her too!”
“No way I’m letting you take her! My family has the best conditions–I can actually afford to raise her. She’s going to be an artist! I can pay for piano and dance lessons, Can you?”
The arguing got louder and louder until fists started flying,
Chloe watched in shock, but inside, everything was becoming painfully clear.
These prople didn’t want to adopt her. They didn’t actually want to be her mom or dad. She didn’t want them!
The woman from before was stuck outside the crowd and couldn’t get through. “Stop it! Quit fighting! Adoption has strict rules–you can’t just take her! All of you need to leave now! You’re scaring the child!”
The adults ignored her and kept shoving their phones in Chloe’s face.
“Chloe, listen to me Pick me! We’ve got an older brother at home, but I’ve always wanted a second kid. If you come to our house. I’ll pay for piano, dance, anything girls can learn–I’ll do it all with you! You’ll be a star, and you’ll make so much. money!”
The female streamer shoved him aside. “Shameless! Chloe, look at me, P’ni pretty, and I’ve got money, a house, and a car. 1 can be there with you when you’re working. Choose me! I really do love you!”
“No, no, no! Pick me Pick me!”
