Chapter 14 Merrick Comes to Chloe’s Rescue
The adults froze for a second, then grew even more annoyed.
“Hey, what do you mean by that? We’re here because we genuinely care about you! How can you tell us to leave?”
But she stayed calm and firm. “I don’t want to be adopted right now. And I don’t want to be adopted by any of you”
The adults widened their eyes in disbelief
“You think you have the right to say no to us? You’re just an orphant”

“Exactly! Since when do orphans get to choose their parents? You’re lucky someone even wants you! Just because you’ve got a little buzz going on, you think you’re something special now? What’s wrong with you, kid?”
Chloe’s eyes widened in shock. “You’re the ones being rudel
She was so angry her chest rosé and fell sharply. She stood up, trying to get away from them–but the adults blocked her even more forcefully
“We’re not done talking! We came here with good intentions to adopt you!”
As she tried to get up, they stopped her again; she lost her balance and landed hard on the floor, pain shooting through her body.
The caretaker cried out, “Chloe, are you hurt?”
Chloe gritted her teeth through the pain and patted herself off, about to stand–when suddenly, several large hands reached. out toward her again.
“Here, take my hand!”
“Hold mine! Hold mine!”
Her brows furrowed deeper in disgust.
She didn’t want them to touch her. She hated these people!
Right then, a dark blur shot out from the side and smacked away all their hands.
A sharp. forceful voice rang out. “Get your filthy hands off her and get the heck out!”
Chloe looked up in surprise and met the sharp jawline of Merrick
He held her tightly, like a small wolf cub guarding its own, eyes fierce as he glared down every adult in sight.
The vibe in the livestream suddenly flipped.
“Whoa! Childhood sweetheart drops in from the sky!”
“That kid is hot! I’in into him!”
“Ugh. I was so angry before, but why am I suddenly shipping this? What is happening?”
“That boy’s so good–looking! Total boyfriend energy!”
Chloe stared at Merrick, stunned. “Merrick what are you doing here?”
The streamers quickly snapped out of it, sizing him up from head to toe.
“Who the heck are you, kid? What gives you the right to butt in? We’ll do whatever we want, none of your business! Get outta
the way
Merrick didn’t say a word. He turned toward the door
Grab something and throw them out!”

The streamers froze–only to see a gang of little boys standing right behind them, eyes sharp and fierce. Without hesitation. they grabbed books and started hurling them with loud thuds!
“Get out“”
“Don’t come near us again!”
Caught off guard, the adults stumbled back under the barrage. Finally, a path opened through the chaos.
Panic broke acrow their faces..
“What are you kids doing? Are you crazy: We came to adopt–how could you treat adults like this? Where’s your respect?”
Merrick snapped. “Respect: You came to an orphanage looking for respect? What about you? You barged in here, ignored all the rules, forced yourselves on Chloe–where was your respect then?”
He clutched Chloe’s hand tightly, steady as a mountain; not even a tremble in his body.
Chloe’s eyes sparkled. Merrick… he really is the coolest!
One of the female streamers charged forward, shouting. “You disrespectful brat! I’m recording everything, you know! Your face is on camera!”
“Hey, you’re the one being rude, got it? You think you’re in the right?”
“You scumbag!”
Merrick’s eyes burned like a storm, staring straight into her camera.
“Chloe’s under my protection. I’ll keep her safe, no matter what! You think filming me scares me?”
He grabbed a storybook from the table and smacked it straight at the streamer.
“Get out!”
